HawkXP71 99
I have sync issues, where I sync media between two machines, both running emby, using rsync. To achieve this in a manner that works, the files ownership is hawkxp.emby So the emby system has full access to write the necessary support files, as do I. However, hawkxp cant be added to the emby group, since its not a "synology dsm group" available via the DSM web system, nor is it available in the synogroup or synouser command line. I have no idea how emby, during the install (note, not in a docker, its installed directly onto both machines via the package manager, but manually updated and installed not from the "store") creates the user and group. is it possible to add other users to the group? Luke 37132
@FrostByte have you tried this before?
FrostByte 5053
I haven't used rsync in a while and it was just for copying Backup files between my NAS and Windows. I'm wondering what group we're talking about. Emby didn't create a group that I'm aware of. With DSM 7 all I got was the system internal user called Emby. When I run synouser on emby I get the following sudo synouser -get emby User Name : [emby] User Type : [AUTH_LOCAL] User uid : [240699] Primary gid : [240699] Fullname : [] User Dir : [/var/packages/EmbyServer/home] User Shell : [/sbin/nologin] Expired : [false] User Mail : [] Alloc Size : [114] Member Of : [5] (65539) sync (999) synopkgs (240699) emby (937) videodriver (65538) scott Sync is the neutral one Im trying to use but notice the emby group
FrostByte 5053
Are you on DSM7? I don't believe you will be able to use the system internal user Emby with rsync. If you have any old Emby users or groups from DSM6 they can be deleted or disabled. Edited June 29, 2022 by FrostByte
HawkXP71 99
I am on DSM 7. Im not trying to login as emby, but rather just add my sync user to the emby group.
FrostByte 5053
Ok, if you have an emby group then it has nothing to do with Emby.
HawkXP71 99
When you run synouser on the emby user you don't have the internal system group?
