Dan833 7
Hi i installed Emby from the app store on my mums UE43J5500 it's a UK tv, everything was working fine until i changed the name of the Emby Server on my Synology. (That's server name not server address) Now it will not connect, the tv was using wifi and was logged in using the https address and the correct port number. Here are the things i have tried. 1. Uninstalled Emby from Tv and reinstalled, No luck. 2. On Synology, in Emby server, removed account that was using the Tv, No luck. 3. On Synology in filestation, removed contents of Devices folder (emby/data/devices) now TV does not show up in devices in emby server. Still no luck. 4. On Synology in filestation, removed authentication.db (emby/data), No luck, bit of a desperate move that one. It still works ok on her PC and her phone (all connected to the same router), I am able to login with both of them, even to the Emby server. Im at a loss right now on what else to try. I don't know if the logs will be any help considering it don't connect. embyserver.txt embyserver-63775171619.txt hardware_detection-63775171637.txt Edited December 15, 2021 by Dan833
Luke 37133
Hi, is this on the same network as the server? Can you just use the lan http address?
Dan833 7
The server is at my house on the nas, so i use the https address at my mums. I did notice when i first installed Emby on her tv it would not connect, so i turned the tv off & on again and it worked. That's something i didn't try today, so tomorrow i will uninstall Emby from her tv turn it off and on again, log into the nas emby server from her pc and restart it, then reinstall Emby on her tv, turn it off and on again and will report back
Luke 37133
What type of SSL certificate?
Dan833 7
The Emby server is using the Reverse Proxy which goes to my ddns host name on synology (synology.me) and the port is forwarded. The Synology registers the certificate daily. Edited December 15, 2021 by Dan833
Luke 37133
Most likely the Samsung TV does not trust the SSL certificate. I don't think this has anything to do with renaming your emby server, it just happened to coincide with that period of time.
Dan833 7
That's weird considering it worked before, i have not changed anything apart from the server name. Anyway i will try the steps i wrote earlier tomorrow. If not i will try and reset her tv as a last resort.
Luke 37133
Let us know how you get on, but I have a feeling you're going to have to allow connection over http if the Samsung doesn't like the SSL certificate. Thanks.
Dan833 7
So why did it work before and not now ? That's what i don't understand.. i had no joy with reinstalling the app or resetting the tv. I don't really want to change my ddns address (too many users) How do i allow connection over http outside my network ? Will it affect the other user accounts on emby ? (If too much hassle i will try Plex) The store version is 1.0.77 (30/4/2020) is that right ? Edited December 16, 2021 by Dan833

Because the recent SSL expirations from LetsEncrypt have caused pain for a lot of users, requiring many to switch to some other certificate. You can find lots of examples in both the Samsung and LG sections of our community. Quote The store version is 1.0.77 (30/4/2020) is that right ? You must be on a device for which Samsung is no longer accepting updates, because now we're up to version 1.1+. Going forward you can install newer versions using the USB install process: https://emby.media/download But please note, if I'm right that this is SSL related, then the newer Emby app version won't make a difference. Luke 37133
Many have switched to ZeroSSL as a result of this:
Dan833 7
I just checked my certificate on the synology and was issued by R3. Im trying to get a zerossl certificate, could someone point me in the right direction this is out of my league. Where it says enter domain, do i enter my synology's external address here ? Dan833 7
Ignore last message, i will not be doing this and will be looking for alternative software. Free account only gives you 3 free certificates, im not going to pay for something that i was getting for free. Not your fault, Samsung need to improve on customer care and support. Thanks for all the hints and tips in previous posts.
Luke 37133
You could also just allow http and use it only for select devices.

This has something to do with my emby being installed in an appbox now. I have been having trouble connecting devices on it. For example, on roku, I had to enter the url and leave the port number blank. In Amazon Firestick I had to manually enter the http (not https) url, and change emby http port to 443 on both server and firestick. But could not make it work with the samsung app. By the way, using emby connect did not help at all on any config changes on the server, nothing happens after entering the pin number on emby.media/pin even if it says "pin confirmed, thank you". Doing some research, I see many people having trouble connecting to Emby on appboxes, since these services are getting more popular. Hi, sounds like maybe you need to configure the appbox to allow the incoming traffic?
