Disrespective 0
I have a media server tucked away in a cool dark place in my house which has been ticking along lovely for the last few years but I would like to implement Live TV on the front end machines. I have a Nuc i5 (8GB ram and ssd) which is currently the front end device for the TV and a similarly specc'd tower for the file server. The file server runs everything and the Nuc has been acting as a Steam box/Media browser. The problem lies in that I can't/don't want to move the file server to a location where I have an aerial socket. The Nuc has one right next to it. I have been using a couple of PlayTV tuners and I can get NextPVR working, and Windows Media Center without any problems at all. Can I have the TV served from the Nuc and the files served from the tower and have the Nuc display both without issues?
Logos302 86
I no expert as I haven't really played with it, but as far as I know the nextpvr plug-in links into where ever you have nextpvr installed. So as long as the server (which where the plug-in would live) can talk to your nextpvr server you're fine. As for where it puts it I don't know how that works for recording. Spaceboy 2494
Yep, same for serverwmc. Live tv recordings will remain wherever your tv server puts them
Deihmos 147
Why not an hdhomerun network tuner and be able to play TV on any device without the nuc? All you need is the server to access the recordings. Edited August 30, 2014 by Deihmos
Dazik 44
Yes it's possible with ServerWMC. I have my media server tucked away as well where the HTPC in my living room houses 4 dual tuners. ServerWMC is run on the HTPC in which the MediaBrowser Plugin for ServerWMC is set to the IP/Port there. It works perfectly fine with no real issues. For me the setup is like this: Media/File Server: 192.168.1.37 HTPC1 + Tuners/ServerWMC: 192.168.1.101 Roku1 Roku2 Roku3 Each is able to pull the TV streams from the ServerWMC HTPC in the living room. However, I have not tried to record TV in this manner but it should be possible as long as the recordedtv folder for WMP is shared over the network. Disrespective 0
I don't want to have to buy a HDHomeRun if I can help it... I think I have a similar solution akensai. I have the Server still running Mediabrowser server but all its really doing for me is pulling metadata for the files I have on there. Then the HTPC also has its own Mediabrowser server and ServerWMC running, but on the HTPC i've told Mediabrowser not to grab metadata. I have to have the media drives from the Server shared to the HTPC but this way the Server is doing the grabbing and storing of data and the HTPC server is just using that data and being a TV server. I had tried NextPVR but wasn't very happy with the channel change speed. Incidentally i'm having trouble getting Mediabrowser to connect with ServerWMC nicely/do anything so might end up going back to it in any case.
