New Server Beta Released

Luke

This is a big one, and it's all about giving you finely grained control of what your server is doing. Let's get to the changes:

First, the warning:

This release will re-scan your library. Please be patient. Also review your user library sharing because you may need to reconfigure some of them.

  • Finely grained control over metadata settings. Choose where your metadata comes from, prioritize internet fetchers, and choose what formats your metadata gets saved to.
  • Local metadata is king. If we see local metadata for an item, we will not go out to the internet. Period. This means as new features are added you may have to manually re-scan, but having predictability is better for everyone involved.
  • Bottom up scanning for music means all data is based off of the media files, e.g. embedded artwork comes first at the album level, and we can read musicbrainz id's from id3 tags, which @steve1977 I'm sure will be happy with.
  • New audio fetcher added - TheAudioDB.com
  • New TV fetcher added - TheMovieDB.org (Currently only at the series level. No season or episode data yet, but it will come with time).
  • There's also a new nifty auto-organize feature for episodes that can monitor a download folder and move episodes to your series folder. It also includes the ability to manually correct when we can't determine the series it belongs to.
  • More user permissions - enable/disable live tv per user, as well as enable/disable any kind of media playback per user.
  • Path substitution features
  • More improvements in regards to lowering cpu usage when transcoding
  • Easier setup and sharing of libaries
  • Status monitoring of live tv tuners, and the ability to reset a tuner
  • Choose from all languages when downloading images manually

I would like to ask users that have full dvd rips to test them (transcoding) and report any issues they may see. There have been some changes in this area.

Where do we go if we want to know more about one of these great improvements eg.

  • Bottom up scanning for music means all data is based off of the media files, e.g. embedded artwork comes first at the album level, and we can read musicbrainz id's from id3 tags, which @steve1977 I'm sure will be happy with.

what tag is used? the same as what musicbrainz picard uses?

I wouldn't mind testing the beta, where do I get a download link from?    Option is under advanced in server config, set updates to 'beta' instead of 'official'.

Is the setting gone to not download any metadata? Do you have to uncheck everything separately now?

It is gone but it only takes a minute. The consensus has been that people want different kinds of media handled differently, and a single setting on top of the individual ones would only add confusion.

Amazing auto-organize.

Very good update and functionnality !!

"Just" add search subtitle and it will be perfect ;) Not easy part i think.

not sure if this will help but, my MBC was crashing to  until I removed all plug-ins and then re-installed the ones I wanted, that got it working again. by the way I used the MBC config. since i was not able to get into it via WMC.
