dark.neo29 1
I have a android TV box M8S+ and when I use Emby with Kodi and passthrough I get surround sound. My receiving also says DTS etc.. when playing. With Emby for android which I just bought I dont get surround sound? My receiver never changes mode to DTS either. Any ideas? TonkaTuff 6
Hi. This probably doesn't help you but I've just set up a new Andoid (Lollipop) based TV (Sony KDL-65W850C) and installed emby for Android TV on it. The app works pretty well but, like you, I don't get any surround sound. Might be a limitation of the app at this point.
ebr 15014
What is the version of Android on the device? Currently, there is a problem bitstreaming DD on Android DTS and aac should be delivered as multi-channel PCM however.
TonkaTuff 6
Hi ebr. Sorry for the delayed response. Here's my setup: * TV: Sony Bravia KDL-65W850C (Android TV v5.1.1) * AVR: Yamaha HTR-3067 (equivalent to model RX-V377) * emby for Android TV version 1.1.41g registered * emby Server Version 3.0.5806.0 running on Windows 7, 64-bit * The AVR is cabled to receive audio from the TV via HDMI ARC. * I have "Audio Output" set to "Direct" in the emby for Android TV app settings but have also tested with this set to "Compatible". All content I play using the emby for Android TV app is received by the AVR as 2-channel PCM. I've tested with the following formats: * Dolby Digital (AC3): Stereo, Mono & 5.1 * DTS: 5.1 * AAC: Stereo & Mono * MP3: Stereo The same content is bit-streamed to the AVR when I play it using emby for Windows Media Centre on my HTPC. I know that the TV is capable of bit-streaming at least 5.1 AC3 to the AVR, via HMDI ARC, because I'm running another app "Presto" that does it. However, audio from the Youtube app appears to also be down-mixed to 2-channel PCM, like that from emby. I've also tested with Kodi (+ emby for Kodi) installed on the TV and when I set it to pass-through audio I just get bad static sound from the AVR speakers. I'm guessing Sony have somehow set it up to disallow pass-through for most apps. However, I'm keen to hear any suggestions you may have. Cheers. ebr 15014
Yeah, unfortunately, I think this is a limitation of some of the embedded TV implementations. If you have it set to Direct and your Android version is 5.1.1, then we are sending the stream to the TV and it must be down-mixing it at a later stage.
