An update to this thread, and it's the one I most wanted to be able to post: as of version 1.3, which is on the App Store now, HDR works with Emby. When I announced the app here I led with a caveat — HDR was being tone-mapped to SDR, because the player on Apple TV decides the display mode from the HLS manifest before it fetches a single segment, and a transcoded stream doesn't describe its dynamic range. That caveat is gone. Not because anything changed on your side: the app stopped asking the server to prepare the video at all. For HDR films that qualify, Atrium now reads the original file from your server and does the container work on the device. It repackages the MKV into a stream the native player can take and writes the manifest itself, so the player knows exactly what it is being handed and the TV switches into HDR. Nothing is re-encoded: video and audio are copied through untouched, and metadata a transcode would strip — HDR10+, for one — arrives intact. What you see is the original 10-bit picture, not a conversion of it. The part your server will notice: it isn't transcoding any more. On my own machine, a 4K feature that used to mean four minutes of ffmpeg and a warm box now shows no ffmpeg in the log at all — just range requests for the file, which is the cheapest thing a server can do. What qualifies, so nobody goes hunting for something that isn't there: - HEVC video, HDR, in an MKV. - At least one AAC, AC-3 or E-AC-3 audio track — those are the ones the app can copy. Anything else keeps going through the server exactly as it did before, and so does everything that isn't HDR. There is nothing to configure and nothing to turn on: if a film qualifies, that's the path it takes. This also finishes a point kalg raised earlier in the thread. MKVs always played — the server was repackaging them — and for these films the app now does that part itself. One thing that hasn't changed: the request I made over in topic 149003, for VIDEO-RANGE and CODECS on the transcoding manifest, still stands and I still think it's worth doing. It matters for every client that doesn't carry its own demuxer, which is nearly all of them, and for everything that has to be transcoded anyway. The measurements are in that thread rather than this one. 1.3 also makes Resume the first button on a film's page, refreshes the page when you open it, and hands audio track selection to the system picker where it can. @softworkz I think I figured out the issue. It looks like I missed a lock on the DB connection in a couple of places. This was allowing multiple threads to query the connection, which is a big no no. I think I have it fixed. Thanks

@Luke Help please. This new release has killed my 4K playback. 4K media freezes then won't play at all, have tried it on Nvidia Shild, FireTV, and Android phone. To fix playback I had to switch the quality from auto to 4k-40Mbp. Thank you. emby_android_1787798365872.txt

Hi @Gallapagos, I just added your plugin to my container and am running it along side tracearr. Library is decent size and can sometimes have up to 10 concurrent streams. Will report back if anything breaks.

@BaenwortI have added some improvements, they are in the latest beta in the catalog. Biggest improvement is being able to run multiple instances of local Tesseract detections.

Hi Luke, thanks for your reply I haven't searched for this yet but would you be kind to also include or let me know if it's coming up, default sort per Library? It's really annoying when i open a new browser or TV app and find default sort back to name instead of my preferred Date Added Thanks!!!

I don't think that's the actual issue. Can you please try one file that you have issues on, but select the AC3 audio track from the details page before you start playback and let me know if it is any better? Please check Stats for Nerds like your earlier tests and confirm that the container, video and audio are now all showing Direct Play

32gb is still plenty of ram, so I would take the more powerful machine.

I have installed the new release and it has fixed the sub title issue where the sub title displayed in the top let corner of my LG TV.

The issue here is not the 4K, it's the audio transcoding that's causing the issue on 2025 models. This is the same issue as here: As per the earlier suggestions, for now your best option is to avoid any audio tracks that don't direct play (ie: no DTS, TrueHD, mp3, flac). Best to stick to AC3 or EAC3 (Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital+). Generally most files have one of these as a compatibility track, so select that and playback should be fine. If it doesn't have one, you can manually add one yourself. We continue to work on a resolution for this, but I believe it is an LG issue and not directly an Emby problem.
