Hello: Emby on Ubuntu 26.10 Each time emby server is updated, my collections will no more hold together. I have to almost start all over, grouping my mkv. Is there anyway to prevent this from occuring ? thanks. George Omoregie.

We release new usb builds fairly frequently and it takes a long time to get updates through the store review process. -

Add Refresh Metadata permission to non-Admin users
Luke replied to CBers's topic in Feature Requests
I think in general we do plan to have more granular permissions over what users can do. -
Add Refresh Metadata permission to non-Admin users
CBers replied to CBers's topic in Feature Requests
I can't believe that you check every single item and check that every piece of related metadata is there, especially when some of it is not even available online. If it was a security risk, then Luke would have said so 4.5 years ago, but here we are. Enough said, let's wait for Luke. -

Add Refresh Metadata permission to non-Admin users
GrimEvil replied to CBers's topic in Feature Requests
I have a lot of users and no I do not have missing metadata because I as the owner manage and update it. I do check every item in my library as that is my job, I have a VERY large library. I know what you asking looks to be trivial to you, but to other people they can see how this could cause a major issue, security is based on least privileged access and what you are asking is to give a user more access than what is really required, I do understand your point but to the majority it is not something we whish to allow. -

Do you have an adblocker extension in the browser perhaps? -
Add Refresh Metadata permission to non-Admin users
CBers replied to CBers's topic in Feature Requests
Perhaps you don't have any users, or they are happy with missing metadata. Do you check every single item that is added to Emby to make sure all of the metadata is available, or do you see missing metadata when you're about to watch something and then refresh the item to have it added? That's all I am asking for, not the crown jewels! If it's not going to be added, then perhaps @Lukecan confirm this, then this will all be put to bed. I'm fed up answering comments from people not wanting the option. It's not a security risk, it's not affecting any metadata already there, it's just filling in missing metadata -

Thanks for retesting. You can also test the backbutton in tabbed view again. At least in the web app, it might be fixed. -
Wouldn't that block all access to the server?

Add Refresh Metadata permission to non-Admin users
GrimEvil replied to CBers's topic in Feature Requests
I understand what you are requesting, but it would need locking down to only refresh one item for example, but again why would a user need to do this when you are the owner and it should be you doing this task, I think it is something that is not required when you have this control that is the point? -

Add Refresh Metadata permission to non-Admin users
GrimEvil replied to CBers's topic in Feature Requests
the reason is simple, as the owner you set metadata and ensure it is correct and any other related media including images. If you allow a user to refresh metadata or change it what stops them from messing up your library. this is why people are against it due to how destructive this could be. -
Ok thanx

Add Refresh Metadata permission to non-Admin users
CBers replied to CBers's topic in Feature Requests
Metadata, not content. Emby doesn't always pull in the metadata for an item, probably due to it not being available from the metadata providers at the time the item is added. Tjhis is such a simple rewuest, I'm not sure why people are getting all twisted up about it. The permision, if added, would only be privided by the server Admin for a user to refresh missing metadata. -
But is there a way to trigger the selection dialog to display?

HI, we don't currently have a way of moving this to another location on Synology. When you uninstall, it does leave the data folder behind, so this requires a manual deletion if you want to make a fresh start when reinstalling.

I can fashion you an access controlled solution in a plugin. it would only be actionable from the web client given current restrictions on plugins extending the user interface. It may be limited to single items at a time (havent checked multi item support). Is that any use. using a pattern akin to linked video. (just need to change the function/ui to a metadata refresh one) (different users and groups can have access to more destructive metadata refresh types) -
Sorry just an adition Reason being I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it and it immediately found the server again so clearly it is retaining that information. Jellyfin did the same. and going in by SSH/Putty and the folders are still there after installation. SO what is it actually uninstalling? Or is this purely a Synology issue? Thanx if you got this far and kudos to the makers, it's atleast an alternative

user switching will always require using interaction. the current above (2) ways of showing the list of users to select from require the user to make a selection, there is no way of specifying a user from an external source.

GameOverAus started following New Emby installation data folder question
-
So i've been a plex user for years but recent updates are rendering it more and more worthless and anti-user friendliness, much Windows vs Linux Initially tried Jellyfin but that hammers the Synology drives to the point the pool kept crashing one of the drives Anyway i installed Emby via the package manager and noticed something which likely doesnt matter but Emby my setup has the Nas system and a Volume 1 which is the shared pool and within that i have it broken down to a drive that essentially holds all stuff accessed by my windows PC and is where the media is stored for Plex. and another that was purely the Plex appdata folder so if something went wrong it was easy to access, As can be seen in the pic Volume 1 has docker, emby (ignore this it was created for what im asking for), PlexMediaServer (the appadata for plex) and Synology is the drive share with the network Plex allowed you to put the appdata elsewhere but Emby does not? it installs it to the hidden system folders which are only accessible via ssh? Is my only option to do it by docker and try to work out what the bleep im doing? So i want Emby to be installed into that Emby folder or the AppData to be in that Emby Folder not in the system I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it and it immediately found the server again so clearly it is retaining that information. Jellyfin did the same.
