Emby shows the metadata of all videos - but the videos are not displayed
Sandwalker posted a topic in Synology
I am using Emby version 4.9.5.0-724090500 on Synology DSM version 7.4.1-90080 and for display LG OLEDTV with Emby plugin - and I am happy. Now I have several videos of the same film in the same directory (different file name) but in different resolutions (SD, HD, 4k, 10k) and languages and the metadata for the films are all registered in the Emby server. But: Only one of the films is displayed for the library view on the web-site as well on the Emby app. Example: Star Wars - IV - Krieg der Sterne enSD (1977).ts Star Wars - IV - Krieg der Sterne deHD (1977).mp4 Star Wars - IV - Krieg der Sterne en4k (1977).mkv Star Wars - IV - Krieg der Sterne de10k (1977).mkv The metadata for all 4 videos reference the same IMDb ID, TheMovieDb ID and TVDB ID. Scanning the library does not help, renewing the metadata does not help, but I would like to see all 4 videos to choose which one to view. -

While that will certainly work, it won't be "secure" (encrypted). But, using something like Caddy as a reverse-proxy can get one setup securely pretty easily.

Everything in the self-hosted media server world has a shade of greyness to it. Putting the responsibly on the end user offers up some latitude to made more useful software. I personally think the Moonfin app is great and I'm happy that they include features that wouldn't be possible in the official Emby app. I also respect Emby's decisions to protect their brand by limiting what types of activities are allowed through their plugin store and official apps. We have the ability to sideload apps and plugins which gives us the flexibility to add functionality based on our own local laws, risk tolerances, and morals.

Emby for Android on Shield TV no longer passing through dolby digital 5.1 or DTS
ebr replied to Kramerika's topic in Android TV / Fire TV
I can't see any reason why you shouldn't be hearing audio unless something downstream in your system truly cannot accept DD+. What happens if you use playback correction? -
@Jdiesel Thank you for that, explaining for someone who wants to understand how a app/service is violating the terms of use beacause i honestly didnt know in this case. Instead of simply labeling something as "Stealing". /N

Yes, I just tried an eac3 codec movie and it just had blank audio.

Я эту проблему решил так. Отключил все зарубежные кинобазы, оставил только кинопоиск, сканирует быстро, единственный минус, ни все фильмы есть на кинопоиске, тогда приходится делать вручную.

I removed it and proceeded with the install. Installed fine and works however i created a test library called movies and when I add new content to a library it is not processed at all even though I have checked "Enable real time monitoring" upon reviewing the logs no library watcher is created. embyserver.txt

As always this is dependant on the copyright laws in your own country but generally scraping private information, copyrighted material, or bypassing security walls is illegal. What is considered copyrighted material can be subjective but the safest and most conservative rule is that if the data owner does not provide a public API to access the data it should be considered private or subject to copyright. Using this information for personal use tends to be a grey area. You copying and pasting a movie rating or synopsis from IMDB into your Emby isn't going to result in a copyright lawsuit. The main reason being that you are still manually visiting the page, viewing advertisements, and providing them will all your data and metrics to harvest. You get the information you want, the service gets your information, and the transaction is a wash. When things start to get less grey is when you automate this process using Python or some other web-crawling mechanism. Now you are receiving the information without physically viewing the ads or providing meaningful usage behavior in return. If you make this scrapping available to others, say through an app or plugin, you are now facilitating the bypassing of the data owners value to make the information available on a much larger scale. There is now a target on you or your app which could mean having your app pulled from app stores or possibly litigation. My understanding is that these providers do not offer a public API but do offer a paid API. In this case it is not grey at all. Free to view and free to use are not the same. Unless you are Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, Alphabet, or any other massive AI company in which case you scrape whatever you want to deal with the legal ramifications after. The average person needs to follow the rules.

hello, i use the 4.9.5.0 version.
-
-
It can be used to stream raw video streams, so you have to have urls for that. It's not going to extract videos from web pages.
-
Hi, you don't have what exactly?
-
Ok but...what does that have to do with waiting 6 years for this to be added?

I agree with everything you say here. Even so this is a good opportunity to say to everyone - BACKUP YOUR LIBRARY - from hard won experience. -HS

Well here it is 2026 and we still don't have this I mean I don't know what logic it is to if you delete the tuner and all of the weeks for the guide data it is so hard to have a script remove that directory because obviously it's not needed or not correct anymore otherwise I figured out myself but it would break on the next update

Hi Luke, thank you for the information. I will follow the guide and report back.

What's the current state of the MVP vs Native Player in the AppleTV Client
vdatanet replied to Lostboy66's topic in Apple TV
Direct play works with MP4 — that's not the issue. The native Apple player will happily take an MP4 with HEVC Main 10 + AC-3 straight off the server. What it won't do is keep the buffer fed. Measured on an Apple TV 4K, same box, same LAN, same files, with an on-screen buffer readout: 67 Mbps remux, direct: buffer starts around 10 s, drains to 1–2 s, never recovers — stalls for good. 15 Mbps file, direct: 5 s after a minute, 1 s after two, but it claws its way back. Either of them over HLS: 50–60 s of buffer, steady for the whole film. The bleed is proportional, not a threshold: ~92% of what playback consumes, so ~5 s of buffer lost per minute played. The bitrate only decides how long you've got before you hit zero — no safe "max direct play bitrate", just a slower death. Not decoding, not the network (a Mac direct-plays the same files over the same LAN with 32–52 s and no stalls). Specific to AVFoundation's progressive path on tvOS. So, you've put a lot of work into choosing the best player, but without support for HLS with fMP4 this work is not enough. -
Please let us know which steps succeed and which ones do not, and then we'll take it from there. Thanks.

What's the current state of the MVP vs Native Player in the AppleTV Client
Lostboy66 replied to Lostboy66's topic in Apple TV
Respectfully, since 2.0.7 the Auto setting appears to have failed me regularly, and frequently. The very same file that I played under 2.0.6 without any Audio sync/loss issues, has repeatedly and randomly lost audio playback while continuing to keep video and subtitles in sync. It's not any one movie but happened across most of my library. Only on the Apple TV Client. The very same movies play back flawlessly in Plex, Infuse, and off the Emby Web Client, Mac Client, and Android Clients. When I did my stress test a little while ago (Player set to MVP), not a single client showed the audio loss. I have even played these files back through iTunes sharing without issue. I am happy to help and provide any details info I can. I already submitted logs in the Apple TV 2.0.7 thread, but haven't heard anything back. -

I would leave it on auto. We've put a lot of work into choosing the best player depending on the situation.
