HI, this is comparing apples to oranges. We wouldn't force the movie display into something just because tv shows is doing it, or vice versa. TV shows are ongoing. Movies are not. But an option to control is fine.

I understand that argument, and I don't expect Emby to develop and maintain every feature that somebody asks for. But we're going in circles now. I've already explained the benefit: with Direct File Access, the player accesses the original media file directly and controls its own file I/O, seeking and buffering. Emby remains responsible for the library and playback management, but is no longer in the media transport path. That's not a theoretical concept — it's exactly how Kodi works with my media, both standalone and through EmbyCon, and it works extremely well. Is that a benefit for the average Emby user? Probably not. Most users won't care whether their original file reaches the player via HTTP or SMB as long as they press Play and it works. But that's very different from saying there is no clear benefit at all. For users who deliberately want the player to access their local media storage directly, Direct File Access is the benefit. At this point I think the real disagreement is simply this: I consider that capability valuable in a local media client; you don't consider it valuable enough for the number of users who would use it. That's a perfectly legitimate development decision. But it is a priority decision, not proof that Direct File Access provides no benefit. @Luke, that's actually why I originally used the word “rejected”. You said you wouldn't describe it that way, but Eric has now explained that maintaining Direct File Access isn't considered worthwhile because too few users need it and the benefit isn't considered sufficient. We can call that “not prioritized” rather than “rejected”, but from a user's perspective the practical result is the same: the feature existed, stopped working after Android/Shield changes, and @ebr, you have alone decided making nothing changes. It doesn’t matter what the other users think about it. We've probably spent more time discussing why Direct File Access isn't worth maintaining than it originally took to implement it.

If you're using it for IPTV, please don't as it's typically illegal content, and it's also a great way to get your IPTV account banned for using multi-room. I am personally extremely angry that the Emby devs caved to the people who use it for that. If you're going to use IPTV, buy a proper box like a Formuler and use it on those boxes in that location, or install Smarters or another IPTV client on your devices and use that to access it, NOT Emby. I personally use IPTV, but I absolutely refuse to integrate it into Emby as Emby is for streaming your personal media, not a TV provider. There is also the fact that you can not control the lag from your IPTV provider and you could have issues with buffering and you would be thinking it's your server when in fact your IPTV provider is over subscribed with too many people, or too many connections from people abusing it when they don't have mult-room accounts. If you're only doing 10-12 devices, then really any modern Intel machine that is not a celeron class can easily handle your wants. The biggest problem could be your network. Ideally you would want as many devices hardwired as possible, specially if you could potentially stream 4k content to 4 or more TV's simulateneously. There have been users who complained about buffering with wifi due to crappy signal, too much interference, bad wifi cards on TV's, etc. I personally use an i5-1235u laptop as my Emby server, and have had zero issues with over 16 concurrent connections. My network is 2.5 gigabit. But I'm not the end all be all. Maybe someone who supports using IPTV on Emby will also chime in and give you what you want, or will just stop by and tell me I'm an idiot or worse for not supporting IPTV on Emby. Hope this helps.

Hi Luke and Emby Team, Currently, Emby displays the airing period for ongoing TV shows by forcibly concatenating the premiere year and the status as [Year] - Present (or 2022 - 现在 in localized languages). Pain points: Visual Clutter: For users who prefer a clean and minimal header layout, having "- Present" appended to the year looks bulky and cluttered. Misleading for Hiatus/Anthology Shows: For many shows that take multi-year breaks between seasons (e.g., British dramas, anthology series), showing "- Present" gives the false impression that it's actively airing new episodes right now. Inconsistency: Movies only display a clean single release year (e.g., 2022), while TV series are forced to show the date range / status. Suggestions / Proposed Solutions: Display Toggle Option: Add a display setting in User / Display Preferences, such as "Show premiere year only for TV series" (allowing users to display just 2022 instead of 2022 - Present). Or Decouple Year and Status: Separate the Status into an independent badge/tag (e.g., displaying 2022, followed by a separate badge like [Continuing] / [Ended], similar to the TV-MA content rating badge), rather than hard-binding them together. This would give users much more flexibility to customize their Emby details page and make the metadata display much cleaner. Thank you for your consideration!

There was a time that you were able to tinker with analyze time but you can’t do that know. The channel change time is rubbish we have been waiting forever to improve but it is not a priority at all. There was talk about nexttv that would have improved it but looks like it has been totally scrapped there is no alpha no beta. Unfortunately there isn’t a software that does it all i miss wmc so much one of tge best software ever developed spoed changes in a second it is full of smarts

It would take zero extra work - they already have it built in, but because they set it to only trigger for the device playing it, it will never be fixed until they change it from automatic to manual and let us force it. It would be a button change and taking the argument from automated if/then to a toggle - the work and coding already exist, just in the wrong form. It also exists already in Kodi, which just skins and controls emby server.

Okay, that confirms my thesis I'm pretty sure. You probably also cloned one server from the other, right? So they both had the same server ID and looked like the same server to the apps. That's not really relevant for what you are trying to do. You are trying to connect within your network. Which one? The LAN or WAN? You should be using the LAN one. If that doesn't work, then that brings us back to firewall settings on your laptop. Look at the firewall rules on your PC and make sure the same ones are on your laptop.

Many years ago, I used fre:ac to convert some WMA lossless files to FLAC. It would likely bulk convert to MP3 as well. https://www.freac.org/ There's probably many other conversion apps to choose from as well, and this may not be the best now??? I still use it sometimes for converting hi-res FLAC to 16/44 FLAC. Perhaps fre:ac is one option you can investigate?

Hi Luke, still have the issue when running the Standard Emby for Andriod app. I have both the Emby apps loaded the Andriod TV app Version 2.1.55g most current version on the Play Store and the Standard Emby for Andriod app version 3.5.56 downloaded from Emby download site most current version. When using the Andriod TV app all versions of Double Vision works but not when I'm using the standard Emby for Andriod app version 3.5.56 i still have the issue. I prefer using the Standard version. As you must know 1st time logging ino the Andriod TV app it even recommends using the Standard Version and i quote "Did You Know? Our standard Andriod app now Works on TVs too and is being updated with more current features" so is it possible to make the same change that was applied to Emby for Andriod TV added to the Standard Emby for Andriod. I 1st reported this over a year ago I'm not a fan of the Andriod TV version I like the features of the Standard version giving me the ability of maintaining the server and media without have to use my PC all the time for this reason I have been using Kodi instead and would love to come back to emby I was an emby user for years.

Looking into it now, I've killed the Emby Server process that was running on my desktop, used the TV to disconnect from the server entirely, now I'm trying to re add it, but running into a whole new issue: the TV can't find the server anymore. I tried using Emby Connect, entered the 5 digit passcode, then the TV app just went back a page and asked me to connect to a server again. I tried doing it manually with the IP address listed on the laptop's server, and it just says it can't connect. I've just checked again that the laptop IS connected to the internet safely, and it is.

My guess is that your old server is still running on your PC and that is the one the other devices are connecting to.

More AI fun (letting AI do stuff using Emby webhooks) - all this is WAY beyond my abilities So on my FamilyHub website my kids can earn screentime by doing chores. There's a timer on the page they can press that will automatically subtract their screen time minutes and then beep when it's either all done or they're come to the amount they want to spend. But I thought, maybe AI could get something working that would not only automatically spend their screentime while they were watching Emby but also stop the video when they ran out of time. So I used a webhook and built a small endpoint that sits there waiting for play/pause messages. Emby's message includes its own ID for whoever's watching and each of my kids has their ID saved into the website (linked with their own website ID) so when a message comes in, the website can tell which kid is watching something. The kids' screen-time balances live in the same Firestore database the rest of the app already uses. So when a "pause" message arrives, it calculates how many minutes just passed, subtracts them from that kid's balance in the database, and — if the balance would go below zero — sends its own command back to Emby's API to stop that video right there. There was one glaring loophole, all of this depended of Emby sends! If one of my kids watched a 3 hour movie with no pausing or stoping then nothing would trigger a check until the video eventually ended. So a small background job (Cloudflare Worker) that runs every couple of minutes (since the main webhook technology can't run on a timer) was added to check if anyone was currently watching, charging them for elapsed time along the way rather than waiting for a pause that might not come for hours. There's only one issue I've noticed and that's if a tv show ends and the continue watching automatically goes to the next show, the website stops registering that a show is being watched, and no screentime is ever deducted for that show (even when the show is stopped - although I didn't test pausing and starting again). My kids think this is cool, but are also kind of disappointed.

You claimed your solution would fix the issue in this thread. That is misinformation and needs to be clarified here.

I initially had the server on my desktop PC, where everything worked fine. Then I migrated the files over to a laptop I got from a relative, with the intent of using it exclusively to run the Emby server. I set it up with the server software, and it did in fact work at first. I had a few issues with it, one of which I posted about before which was fixed entirely by deleting the library sectors and re-adding them, but since then I've had this recurring issue where the files just aren't read at all. To test it as I said in the quoted comment, I added a few video-files to my desktop computer and hooked the server into them, they showed on the TV almost immediately. Would the server running on multiple machines cause some kind of conflict like this? Because again, it HAS worked on the laptop before at times, even when my desktop PC was running, it's just never been specific.

Sorry, my bad. The above confuses me a bit. Exactly how did you do this? You've only installed the server on one machine, correct?
