Pixelsmash Vulnerability in ffmpeg (CVE-2026-8461) - Is Emby vulnerable?
pwhodges replied to CHBMB's topic in General/Windows
You didn't need to - the impact was described near the start of the discussion (and is minimal for Emby, unlike for Jellyfin), as were the steps being taken. Most of the discussion is complaints about how it "should" have been announced - some of the criticism has merit, but the discussion of it has added nothing to understanding the CVE itself. Where do you enable real time monitoring ?
-
Enable real time monitoring is all you should need to do. If it's not working there may be a permission error, so you'll have to provide logs.

Guess i can't help my self from sitting at a computer 24/7. The heat wave we have had here in Europe was simply unbearable so my friend and i decided to just not go to the things planned. Luckily the heat wave is over now so i can sit in doors again and relax by doing some "work" until next thing we have planned in a couple of weeks. Bonus is that i avoid any hangovers.

Agree, that would make sense independently from this specific case. @Luke

And of course, a few hours after posting this, he contacted me back. He did see something strange on the client at the time the issue started: The video was blinking between two images all the time. He did restart the emby client, but the blinking was still there. I guess he managed to make the client play two videos at the same time, alternating rapidly between each one. That would be consistent with the first issue I saw (stop/play/stop/play) When I blocked, then deleted his account, it did not fix anything, as he was still sending stop/start events. He just rebooted his computer, logs are quiet now. So, as softworkz said, probably a freak incident, but I would still like to propose to add a feature in the clients to respond adequately to 4XX http codes, and not rapid-fire retry. At least if you get a 401 or 403, you're not welcome, leave my server alone for a while

I have 6 or 7 folders, new videos, old, tv,music etc on local drives

-
I seem to be continuously missing movies that I know I used to have. They are missing off the server completely, not just Emby. Is there a log or history where I could view which movies have been in a library even if they are no longer present? I have verified that none of my users have the ability to delete anything, but I need some way to track it.

Collections Fails and Images Don't fully download
ab123ga replied to ab123ga's topic in General/Windows
Its on the plugins tab. The version that is there was first released in early May. The previous install had collections and I do know it is much older than may for initial install as I've been using it for years. So not sure why the plugins tab has one just released. -
Trouble Getting .strm files to play on Linux
MartinCheetham replied to MartinCheetham's topic in Linux
Thanks for the comment. I had not got around to trying the Windows Client/Linux Sever. It doesn't work. I also tried Linux Client/Windows Server. It does work. So irrespective of the client if the server is Windows it works with the .strm files I've created and if its Linux the strm. files don't play. Unfortunately it doesn't help me much as I really can't see what I'm doing wrong unless something is broken in the way .strm files are processed. -
Why is Jellyfin so much more popular than Emby?
Deihmos replied to Nabukodonosor's topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
I’m certain many people try Jellyfin and then realize how unpolished it is, leading them to switch to Emby instead. -
And folder paths are what, local drives? SMB shares?
-
The reason I was asking if it works when the file system is mounted on the client that you're playing from because I remember with Emby Theater I was watching something and wondering why it wasn't going through my reverse proxy, it was playing the file directly from my mounted NFS share. Windows doesn't work that way, it was unique to my Linux playback. From a quick check it seems like the newer client doesn't do that, it all goes through my RP as expected. But okay reading OP again I see that your STRM playback does not work at all for Linux server + Linux client playback. Does it work with Linux server + Windows client? Otherwise the documentation doesn't seem to cover specifically a local file on Linux, it only shows a Windows path. Sorry, I don't use STRM files, so I'm not otherwise sure about that, but I imagine it should be the same just with the file path using a Linux convention instead of Windows.

I was able to use this guide to migrate from windows server 2016 to a K3S container based on the docker image: emby/embyserver:latest I did have to install the meta data extractor as I was not storing meta data in nfo files. I will call out though that I had to manually re-create my playlists and categories. One other thing I had to do was manually re-apply passwords on the accounts. Luckly I only have three account for my family so I know them all, but just something for people to be aware of.

Finally got back onto this project. Things went well with this. I'll also post some detail on the other thread.

Trouble Getting .strm files to play on Linux
MartinCheetham replied to MartinCheetham's topic in Linux
In fact the local paths are the same but se my original post. I’ve posted the output of the file list as if I were user EMBY. So yes the local path is OK. The .strm file was created using a windows bat file so I’ve also checked that it only has a CR not CRLF as Linux standards. -
Hey Luke no I was talking about the password I use as a user/admin on my server and to log in on the various emby apps etc.. It's the same password I've used since signing up. I started up the app June 29 but was signed out. When I tried to put in my password I kept getting the invalid password/username error. I have a separate log in and password for this website.

Pixelsmash Vulnerability in ffmpeg (CVE-2026-8461) - Is Emby vulnerable?
xe` replied to CHBMB's topic in General/Windows
Can someone explain to me why I am having to read pages of forum debates to gain an insight into this CVE? Why is this being handled like some sort of "first time a CVE has been released" bespoke process? Publish a succinct impact statement and a timeline on the main website, we are all busy people managing busy lives, no one has time for this. -
