They could be on an older or newer version that happens to handle your media better than the one we are on. We are due to update it again soon. We've customized exoplayer heavily to add and fix things. Maybe they've done the same. We have added software decoding with ffmpeg and maybe there are cases where it's using this even when a hardware decoder is available. This was reported recently by someone. I think you have been so heavily focused on what you think the solution is that we haven't even really looked at your problem.

That's actually an interesting point — and yes, you're right: Just Player is also based on ExoPlayer/Media3. But that makes my question even more interesting. If both Emby's internal player and Just Player are based on ExoPlayer/Media3, why does Just Player handle some media on the same Android hardware better than Emby's internal player? So perhaps my criticism of ExoPlayer itself was too broad. The issue may be less about ExoPlayer and more about how the playback stack is implemented, configured and extended by the application using it. Regarding local vs external mode: I don't necessarily mean that Emby needs two completely different playback engines. What I mean is two different playback paths: Local network: Direct File Access via SMB, where supported. Remote connection: HTTP streaming through the Emby server, with transcoding available when necessary. The same internal player could still be used for both. For me that would combine the best parts of both approaches: full Emby integration such as Skip Intro and Next Episode, while allowing capable local clients to access the original files directly instead of requiring the server's HTTP media path.

First, why should the player be different based on connection? Second, from a quick google, Just Player is built on exoplayer.

Show Ratings in Movie Poster, Reverse Sorting, Smart Playlists, etc.
Luke replied to danzigman's topic in Feature Requests
@danzigman Hi. Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks. -
@Luke No reply? I’ve got a few more questions. Why is a top-class programme like Emby paired with such a poor-quality Exoplayer? Why can’t you use other players, such as Just Player? Yes, I know you can integrate it as an external player, but then features like ‘skip intro’ and ‘next episode’ are lost. It should be possible to use the app in both a local mode and an external mode. Local mode for the internal network. External mode via the internet.

ebr replied to danzigman's topic in Feature Requests
Hi. Please restrict feature requests to a single feature. This is the only way we can track them. However, I think all of your requests are either already available in the standard app or already have an existing feature request. -

Show Ratings in Movie Poster, Reverse Sorting, Smart Playlists, etc.
danzigman posted a topic in Feature Requests
Please consider the following features for the Android TV app, and similar to Kodi, such as the ff. - show a small number at the bottom of the movie poster when one sees the movies in browsing mode, showing the IMDB rating (and maybe the TMBD rating if the IMDB rating's not available); - sort by IMDB rating in reverse (lowest to highest); - smart playlists (proposed several times, with some third-party workarounds like putting tags in videos) like those in Kodi, and which I think are operational in Jellyfin (which I tried using, but the library scan is slow); - show a few more details about movies when browsing playlists (smart or otherwise), like the IMDB rating, and the ability to sort playlists too by title, rating, etc.; and - settings to adjust audio, such as increasing the center speaker by x decibels, increasing the overall audio by x decibels. This will allow me to switch from Kodi with the Emby addon to the Emby app, as EmbyCon doesn't allow me to use Kodi smart playlists, and the TV storage is limited for the Emby database (lots of videos in libraries; I've to use a separate Android media box with more storage connected to the TV). Thanks. -

thank you for that info speechles! I wasn't aware, but that sounds great and good call! ....and understood Luke on how to report these going forward.

@lbkBradThank you for reporting the issue. Apologies too. Roku has abandoned support for the WMA/WMAPRO codec in their latest firmwares. I have confirmed this on my devices which received that newest firmware. We can adapt to match that change. I have submitted a fix to the team for this issue. If you find any other problems, mistakes or something where it is not working correctly do not feel afraid to let us know. We appreciate this kind of post. Thanks again.

Atrium — a native tvOS app for your Emby server

With 1.8 for the two options for channel sorting they both look the same, whether they are the exact same or they happen to be getting the same by different routes I don't know. Seem to be done by name / title. Not this (both options show this sorting) - preferred (for me anyway) - - Yesterday

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

lbkBrad started following audio playback issue
-
I found an audio issue in my roku app I thought I'd mention. I do consider this very low priority (if I'm playing music on either home stereo, I'm more likely to be playing Spotify). OK, so I have thousands of audio files - all MP3 or WMA. These have always played fine on: Plex/roku, Sharp mini-stereo, Honda car stereo, Pioneer car stereo (those last 3 via USB). I usually keep all types of transcoding disabled where possible. in Emby right now, the MP3 files are playing fine, but the WMA files show 'unsupported audio format'. The other day while I temporarily had transcoding enabled, I remembered to re-test and the WMA files played fine. It occured to me most of my WMA files are variable bit-rate and I wondered if that had anything to do with it (maybe that's not even supported). Anyway, that is the issue (and yes, I am aware that audio transcoding usually isn't very intensive), so if I left out any needed details, let me know.

Yep, that new release, 1.0.46, installed successfully. Thanks, @Luke!

Atrium — a native tvOS app for your Emby server
jasonmcroy replied to vdatanet's topic in Third Party Apps
My next one isn't necessarily a bug but more of a request possibly something you just haven't implemented. Can you have the app respect the server settings regarding skip forwards and backwards? It currently does the Apple TV standard 10 secs. In my Emby server I have it set for 25 secs forward and 10 secs back. I know some apps let you set that independently in the app itself and some seem to use whatever you have set in Emby. -
