Recorded TV - Automatic Conversion Question

Server Version 3.0.5931.0 (runs on Unraid 6.1.9 Docker)

Silicondust Prime x2 (running latest firmware 20160328atest2)

Cable Provider - Comcast

 

 

I have a question about the Live TV Settings - Automatically convert recordings to a streaming friendly format.    If I check the box to have the setting 'on', then everything I record from LIVE TV at that point on,  by default will record in MP4 format  (even if I DO NOT select this option in the SERIES setting).     The only way I can keep the Live TV recordings in the .TS format, is to 'un-check' this box (but lose the option to have it convert to mp4 on the fly).    Is this the way it is supposed to work?
