Sooo, odd issue with adding in an Actress...

So for some reason Emby will not let me add a specific Actress to the Cast of the TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000. I type in her name mark it as actor and enter in her roles then hit save but then upon going back out of the editor and into the season overview she doesn't show up... I have no issue adding anyone else to the Cast but for some weird reason it refuses to add this specific Actress, it won't add her to the season or the series, I've tried it on the web client as well as the Android app and get the same result either way... Any clue what's going on?

The show is Mystery Science Theater 3000

It's season 2

And the Actress is:

Alexandra Carr

And her roles are:

Magic Voice (Voice)/ Sylvia/ Mom

Sorry if this is on the wrong spot couldn't figure out which thread would be best

Good day,

I did not have that tv show, so I created a folder for it for test, then did library scan, and Emby see it all fine:

So I edit role names as you did:

All fine:

The test done on the web client.

My best

Still not sure why it wasn't working for me but it seems a complete reinstall has fixed it, unfortunately though it deleted all the custom metadata I had for the Cast/Crew... Well back to work I guess, thanks for the help!

Apparently I spoke too soon... While editing the people it removed it again.... The weirdest part is that it lets me do "Alex Carr" but as soon as I change it to "Alexandra" it goes kaput...

I was running the latest stable version and now I'm running there latest beta version...

Hi XiaoKe, can you look in the person.xml file in the imagesbyname or metadata folder (imagesbyname\people\A\Alexandra Carr or metadata\people\A\Alexandra Carr) and look if the name between <LocalTitle>Person name</LocalTitle> is correct.

I dit a search for "Alexandra Carr" on imdb and the only result i get is "Carrie Coon", Emby probably changed the name field to this person.

While troubleshooting I actually did that, and it was indeed wrong so I went in with notepad++ and edited it, but it still isn't working it still isn't showing her in the client

I think it is something in the library.db.  I made some changes to actor name and actor was no longer visible via cast and crew or Metadata Manager edit People section but was still listed in the xml metadata.  Nothing I did would bring the actor back so I restored a library.db from a backup and actor was visible again.

You have to make the change in the metadata editor or else the library.db will not be update like Happy2Play is saying. When i have this problem i do a search for the person that is in the person.xml file and then i edit the person, change the name field back to the correct one. After that the person will reappear.

I already mentioned this in another thread, why is this name field changeable? Shouldn't this field be locked?

I've got a similar issue (some Cast not even showing a place-holder while being in the NFO)

I've had to search for variations on the name and add them to find the one that would appear.  I happens mostly with my Anime database as some cast members names are written differently in Romaji (ex: Saitō vs Saito vs Saitou).  I do not know if it could happen with other variations, such as actors with accents in their name (I keep my French movies with French Metadata, all others with English ones... didn't notice if an actor playing in both French and English movie are named exactly the same in the Metadata when pulling in different language).

To give an example:

Actress "Chiwa Saito" did *NOT* show at all (no place-holder, nothing) ==> metadata/People/C/Chiwa Saito/person.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<Item>
  <Added>2015-08-01 11:33:02 AM</Added>
  <LockData>false</LockData>
  <LocalTitle>Chiwa Saitō</LocalTitle>
  <BirthDate>1981-03-12</BirthDate>
  <IMDB>nm1543455</IMDB>
  <TMDbId>81245</TMDbId>
</Item>

Actress "Chiwa Saitō" is showing fine ==> metadata/People/C/Chiwa Saitō/person.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<Item>
  <Added>08/09/2015 00:36:58</Added>
  <LockData>false</LockData>
  <LocalTitle>Chiwa Saitō</LocalTitle>
  <BirthDate>1981-03-12</BirthDate>
  <IMDB>nm1543455</IMDB>
  <TMDbId>81245</TMDbId>
</Item>

Anyone has an idea why this weird behaviour?  Any workaround except grepping through the Peoples directory and trying variations?

Would be nice to have a plugin like Studio Cleaner for People, so that we could map all those pesky buggers to a single one :/
