Blur?

Emby App on Fire TV

With the Emby App I get a horizontal blur when watching Live TV or recorded TV.  Got the same results on two different TV's.  The blur was especially bad during the superbowl.  Ended switching back to my WMC extender to watch the game with my hdhomerun.

Is there a fix for this?

Never seen that.  Likely it is related somehow to the signal.  What Live TV system?

You have a picture of what it looks like?

yeah sounds like one of 2 things a source issue like EBR mentioned, but it also could be a transcoding issue in that you may have the bandwidth for transcoding set very low which will cause picture quality issues for things like sports.

I can take a screen shot of how it looks when I get home.  The blur looks like horizontal lines on fast moving scenes or sport shows.  A ghosting effect.  I found a pic online that resembles the problem.56ba3013372ba_ghosting.jpg

I can steam HD content NAS/Live TV all day long through Kodi and WMC.  I assume its a deinterlacing issue?

Jeremy what transcoding settings are you referring to?

Those are interlacing artifacts.

You must have been watching a channel that was broadcasting in 1080i.  The above example is 480i.

I have only seen that in rare situations with some 1080i channels and then a lot of times it will only be on certain video sequences (like when they show an old clip or something).

But the problem only occurred using the Emby App.  When I switched to my Windows Media Center Extender to watch the game it worked flawlessly as it always does.

Because WMC was built for TV in 2004 so it does a good job of de-interlacing such things.

These streaming platforms are not expecting interlaced signals so we have to have lots of moving pieces working just right for them to be correct.

I believe we are working on improving interlaced content detection at the server end which should help any recorded content.  For direct streamed from the tuner content, we have to rely on the signal having enough information in it and the player to be able to handle it.  In my experience that is the case most of the time but not always.

I have the same issue.  Not sure what the comments above are about since most cable programs are not 1080p, I think it would be a fairly significant issue for folks trying to migrate to Emby.  I turned off VLC on my Amazon Fire TV and it went away, but then I have to deal with the performance issues.  I ended up setting max resolution for direct streaming to 720p or below and it went away.  Ultimately not awesome, but if you're watching something with a lower resolution you won't be able to tell the difference.

Funny, I have the superbowl recorded as well, same issue with the interlacing issues.  What I can add, is that played the WTV through Emby on Fire TV and had exactly the same issue.

Where did you set the 720p at? On the FTV display settings?

Hopefully detection and the overall TV module will get better soon.  I really like the flexibility of what Emby offers.  But ultimately it comes down to the wife factor.

Yes, I set 720p on the Fire TV inside the Emby app.  The setting is "Max resolution for direct streaming".  Going from memory but pretty sure that's right.  Two days now and no complaints, so must be fine!

Sorry nothing that would help here.  I was thinking you were having issues with motion blur, but this is definitely an interlacing issue and unrelated.
