Problem Configuring Channel Downloader

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm trying to get the Channel Downloader plugin to work with the podcast plugin.

Config:

- Emby on FreeNAS: 3.0.5786.0

- Channel Downloader 1.0.5810.30068

- Podcasts: 1.0.5871.25217

I configured two podcast feeds. I can see the feeds in the respective podcast library and can play episodes.

Now I want the (new) episodes to be downloaded. I was told this is what channel downloader is for :-)

If I enter the settings of channel downloader, I only see a spinning wheel and can't configure anything: post-103337-0-64125000-1454009604_thumb.jpg

Am I missing a step?

I can't see any error in the log but can provide it of course if necessary.

Thanks,

Gebhard

Hi,

if I understand your post correctly, I should see an updated Channel Downloader plugin in Emby for install, right?

As of now I'm only being offered older versions, no new version (Emby has been restarted several times) :-(

Cheers,

Gebhard

This looks and acts like the problem I diagnosed in the dev's plugins forum.

Even building from source the issue still isn't resolved.

Too bad - thanks for the feedback anyway.

Looks like my plans to do podcast handling with Emby crumble away :-(

I am able to load the config page and save too.  However, the loading message never goes away and I get no checkboxes for plugins that support content downloading.

In the console, I get an error stating that allChannelFeatures is undefined, leading me to believe the problem is either server side or plugin-related.

I have combed through the plugin and nothing jumps out at me.  If I generate an API key and append ?api_key=xxxxxxxxxxxxxx to localhost:{port}/emby/Channels/Features, the server throws a JSON object back at me.  I am truly stumped here because I can't see a dang thing that would cause the error.  I have tried loading the page with multiple browsers on multiple machines both Windows and Linux.  Nothing.

I have tried just about everything that I can think of.

And just for my sanity, can you point me towards an explanation of what the base object for response is in the .fetch method?  I have Googled up a storm trying to figure out what response.json() does but can't find it.

Those are the only channels in the official repo that support downloading. My own plugin, the Jupiter Broadcasting channel, also does. I have both it and podcasts installed and neither show up on the config page.

The reason I know without a doubt something is going on here is the fact that the loading circle never goes away.

Welp...wadda ya know.  It works after updating the server and installing the republished plugin.  I have no idea why it didn't work before.

I'm still on Emby 3.0.5786.0 - will I also see the updated plugin?

Last time I checked it still was on version 1.0.5810.30068

Thanks,

Gebhard

You probably should update to the latest stable server and run the update plugins task.

Hi,

the problem with "update to the latest stable server version" is always that I have to wait for the Emby FreeNAS plugin being up to date.

But: yesterday I got a new version of Emby and also of Channel Downloader plugin.

I did a very quick test and the configuration dialogue seems to be working now.

I'll do some testing over the weekend and will post the results here.

Thanks for helping!

Cheers,

Gebhard

Ah. You don't have the luxury of automatically updated plugins. Glad it is working now!

Hi,

OK, it seems to work now :)

Two minor issues:

  • when pressing the three-dot-button to browse the file system for the download folder (post-103337-0-43735100-1454861310_thumb.png), nothing happens (entering the directory in the field works)
  • how can I distinguish downloaded from not-yet downloaded episodes when browsing the channel?

Thanks,

Gebhard

Thanks I will look at the 3-dot button. There is currently no way in the UI to view the downloading status. The main issue is that this feature is isolated to a plugin because it's only used by a very small audience. We would really need to see more demand for it before we would promote it to a core feature and give it that kind of treatment.

Too bad that podcast support is so basic ... Emby having a podcast plugin was the main reason to prefer it to other solutions.

Guess I'll fine tune my feature request next weekend  ;)

If you let me know what podcasts you would like a channel for, I could see about whipping a channel up for you.

Hi, thanks for the offer, but I'm using subsonic for downloading podcasts for now ...
