Hulu plus commercial free

I know this is US-centric, but Hulu just announced an ad-free version of their service for $11.99 a month.

With my cable company locking down all cable content as 'copy once' (again US centric crap!) I have always been doing HTPC with a handicap.

To me - this changes the game considerably.  I now am very interested in how to integrate Emby with streaming content from Hulu.

Thoughts on that or on the announcement?

What they want me to do is way, way less annoying than what TWC wants me to do.

With TWC I am locked in to WMC for any cable channel surfing - which is ... a requirement in my household.

The commercials were always the reason I never used Hulu Plus. I did their free month trial again last month and when I went to cancel it last week they offered me another month free if I stayed, so I am on that until the end of this month. I have used it four times since then and only because all of my DVR testing between Emby and the HDHomerun DVR program I messed up a few recorded shows.

I may check this out and see if it can fit in my overall plans.

The Hulu apps I've used have AWFUL Uis.  The shows stay available to watch a more or less random amount of time.  It's a really frustrating product to use.  Still, no commercials makes it less bad.

This definitely changes the landscape I think. Hulu has been beefing up their offerings and will get Epix content next month. They started showing Showtime content last month with an additional fee. I think our days with Cable are just about over. Hulu, Netflix and SlingTV will give my family most of the content we watch. Missing will be CBS and Discovery channels. However you can get CBS streaming for $7.00 a month. That would still be less than the $100 a month Time Warner package we have.

Yeah, even if Hulu sucks - this is a very big change in the industry.  Like when Google announced coming to Austin, and I suddenly got 300mbps internet from TWC, maybe this will push their on-demand to be commercial free.
