Cloud Synced Media Not Being Used

hello, i have synced three series to google drive and an trying to play them back on a roku. but the roku is playing the local media, i can see this as a ffmpeg job is kicked off immediately on the server. are there any other steps needed to implement a roku using the cloud synced media? server on Version 3.0.5572.0, roku on 1.98

What profile did you pick for syncing?

You'll have to use baseline for now. The general profile has some fixes for the next release that will resolve this. Keep in mind the app bitrate setting also applies so be mindful of the sync quality

Perhaps a stupid question, but how does the client know to stream from the Cloud, as I can't find any settings that I need to change, or is it all automatic?

Also, can the profiles be renamed to the name of the client, even if profiles are duplicated, as it makes more sense?

it's all automatic, and i don't think it makes sense to duplicate the profiles. that will create the impression that if you want reusable mp4 you'll need to sync content multiple times over and over again. that's not necessary when typically it will suffice for a lot of devices. once we have editable profiles people will be able to do that on their own.

I also can't seem to get Roku to play cloud content on Roku 2.06 and Server 3.0.5603.33352

I've made two sync jobs with a custom bitrate of:

  • 1.5Mbs baseline
  • 3.0Mbs general

On Roku preferences, set bitrate to 3.2Mbs (default) and set local Emby server account access to NOT "play video that requires transcoding".

I've tried setting the bitrate to 3.0Mbs and 1.5Mbs but get same results.

"No compatible video stream"

Should this be working with the settings above?

Can't seem to get this working in the WebUI with a 1.5mbs bitrate (with the account that can't transcode) that should directstream from Google with my 1.5Mbs cloud synced content.

I must have something set wrong.

are you on the beta channel or public?

Beta 2.06 (hard to know if beta channel or not for sure, pretty sure).

PS - I'm testing inside with internal IP's.  Don't know if that is important to the streaming logic.

can you try again with the beta roku and then post the server log from that time? it will indicate why it won't direct stream. thanks.

can you try pulling down the file from google drive, add it to your library as a regualr video and then see if roku will direct stream it? thanks.

Of course, my test file seems corrupt (it did get converted by Emby).  All my other files are playing nicely.

As you've alluded, this is a source media issue.

Does Roku always favor cloud media?  So if Roku client bitrate was 6Mbs, would it ignore my cloud synced 3Mbs content and stream direct from server?

what is corrupt, your input? or the conversion output?

as far as the other question, there's still some refinement needed in that regard, when multiple direct options are available, which one to choose. Most people would normally want the highest quality option, but when a cloud synced copy is available they might want that one to be preferred. and then there's the in-network variable. when you're in your home network, you'll probably just want the best one.

It's happening to both the 1.5 base or 3.0 general won't play for only that movie.

Since every other movie has played in both bitrates, I'm going to assume it's the source file which is causing issues on the conversion.  I used a cloud sync job at a custom bitrate of 1.5 base...and I ended up with a 3.1Mbs file.  I reported this a week back when I was just folder syncing to test...and it had the same results.

It's not a big deal for now, but something in the FFMPEG sync job conversion settings is not working with some files (producing larger than expected bitrates), sometimes.   I'll try to narrow down more of a pattern this week.
