This sounds a lot like a problem that I am having. I am running Windows 7. I have MB3 installed, and the server configured. I also have MBC installed, as this pc is primarily a htpc, accessed exclusively by remote control. I was able to install Gamebrowser 3 into MB3, and configure it without issue, however it seems to be a major problem installing ANY plugins through MBC. In the configurator, there is simply no button to get plugins. In the WMC view, I can go to the library of plugins, and I can see them, however if I click on anything, the screen becomes dim, and nothing happens. it's like that feature is completely missing. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled several times to no avail.

Please read the link I posted above.  I will need a log from when the problem occurs.  And screenshots are always worth more than 1,000 words.

I am sorry, I really do hate to be a pain, but I am a complete noobe, in almost every sense. :-( I barely even know the ins and out of Windows 7. I have just upgraded from XP, literally days ago, and have been running that on a homebrew PC that I have been running since WMC2005. I have been searching out all of the plugins that made WMC awesome. That in its self has been rather frustrating. Between getting all of the MB drivers installed and functioning, (even tho I'm running a decent ASUS mb, it's still older, and drivers were a real pain) and finding all of my old add ins, (many of which I have had to do extensive searches to find downloads, some of which are no longer available.) I stumbled across a link to Gamberowser, and was ecstatic when I discovered an add on that would allow me to run my game emulators from wmc, without ever touching a keyboard. I believe that I originally got MB, and GB from Softpedia, and they were old versions. I couldn't get out of the trial version of GB. So I found the website, and current versions last night, and upgraded. Initially, I figured that I couldn't download any plugins because I hadn't yet contributed. So I did that. Now the GB plugin shows the "contributor" as highlighted in the plugin library, but still no love when I try to download. I was running all MB software from the "latest stable release" links, and have now changed to "latest beta version" in hopes that would make a difference. It did not, and yielded the same results. Everthing seems to run as it should, with no crashes, or anything like that. Just when I try to download a plugin, everything goes dark, as though that option is unavailable. I can back out of that screen, and everything brightens back up, and I can go through other menus. I am of a mind to think that this is a security issue with my pc. I feel that windows is blocking the functions of MB classic. I believe this because if I right click the link within MB, and go to the security option, the screen that I see is like this:

PAGE NAME:

media browser 3

SECURITY:

THIS IS NOT A SECURE PAGE

ADDRESS:

resc://MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser.Resources/PluginCatalog#Plugin Catalog

I have absolutely no clue how to upload a log file, but I could get a screenshot, by taking a pic on my phone, and uploading that to the forum. I have tried to turn off all of my security, just to get gb downloaded, but I can't figure out how to do that either. When I go to windows defender, it says that the service is not running. I cannot find an option to turn off Windows Security essentials, and turning off Windows Firewall did not help. I truly apologize for being such a noob, and being a general pain, but I'm kind of clueless and stuck.

Also, if it makes any difference, as in, something is interfering, I currently have the following installed:

Heatwave weather

ESPN 3

MyMovies 4 server/client edition

Hulu Desktop

Boxee

Pandora

Radiotime

Wow - that was 1,000 words.  Still, I think I'm going to need a picture ;).

You said "when I try to download a plugin everything goes dark".  I can't tell from that statement what you are actually doing.  You need to provide pictures or exact steps of the exact things you are clicking on and what appears.

What is the resolution of your display?

Okay, here goes with some pics. Would have gotten back sooner, but I had to help a friend paint today.

This is the first shot of my plugin screen

Kind of hard to tell from the pic, but the screen has dimmed down, as if nothing can be selected. This is after

left clicking, (or hitting SEL on my remote) on the Game Browser icon. It does the same on all of the icons.

This is a simple right click (to bring up the menu) on GB icon.

and this is the message I get from left clicking the internet security option in that menu.

My screen resolution is set to 1024X768. I am running an Nvidia GeForce 6600GT video card.

In the mean time, I have uninstalled all of the new software, and returned to MB version 2.6.2.0R, and GB version 1.9.9.75, which runs perfectly. I've got a few more days until the demo version shuts down.

I think the problem is your screen resolution.  It is just too low.  Plus, it is incorrect for your display's aspect ratio.

1024x768 is an old-style 4:3 aspect ratio but your display is obviously 16:9.  Increase your resolution to 1280x720 or higher and I think you will be able to get to the catalog.

Also ensure you have your display set to widescreen in the WMC setup.

After changing the resolution, there were large areas of the screen that were not viewable, on the sides. Had to hard reset, then go into safe mode to keep  media center from starting, in order to change back. Windows 7 sure is not as user friendly as XP, lol. If resolution is the problem, would it help, maybe to unplug the tv, and hook up an old school monitor, just to install GB? It's a real shame that I can't use the old software permanently, as it worked flawlessly on my system. I'm close to hanging it up before I do something that will force me to reinstall Windows.

If your graphics card is not capable of at least 1280x720 I suggest you upgrade it as you will probably have other issues as well.

I'm not sure that the graphics cars is not capable, I think that the problem is most likely my lack of knowledge. The higher resolution did display, however, instead of fitting it to my screen, the way XP did (screen area became larger, while icons and everything got smaller) Windows 7 simply stretched everything beyond the viewable screen, and I could only see, the center portion of my desktop. This is why I was unable to close, or minimize any of my open windows. I'm sure I'm just not doing something right, as was apparent, almost from the time that I initially upgraded to 7. In XP I was using component video. After the upgrade, I could not fit it properly to my display, and switched to a VGA cable, and windows automatic settings out of frustration. It just worked that way, so I left it alone
