New Collections Not Playing Nice With Cache Path

In my current configuration, I have an old Collections library that I'm fairly certain I had originally built using the Auto Box Set plugin before I decided I'd rather manage my collections manually and uninstalled the plugin.

On my server, I've designated a Cache path to my NAS in my settings since the machine running it has extremely limited storage on its c:\ drive. So the path to my Collections library is "\\{NAS}\Videos\_backup\collections".

Now, however, whenever I create a new Collection, it's being generated in my "C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\collections" directory and not in my designated cache, and on top of that, it's also creating an entirely new Collections library.

This appears to be the only element of my server not using the Cache path properly, so I'm at a loss as of how to fix it. Copying over the contents doesn't work (it simply fails to detect the copied content in scans), and editing existing collections that are in the NAS' collections through the Emby interface works fine otherwise (and those are showing the correct path in the Metadata editor).

Emby has never stored it Collections data in the cache location.  It has always been  "C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\collections".\

You can attempt to put all your backup\collection in the default location and perform a scan via dashboard-library-collections to get them to be seen again or a full library scan.

Interesting... So how does one change the Collections data location then (clearly I accomplished this somehow in the past)? My C:\ drive space is limited.

Not really... it's not the movies in the collections getting moved around, but the collections data. Where it is being generated by default is somehow different from where I'd had it being generated in the past, "\\{NAS}\Videos\_backup\collections". Now whenever I create a new collection, it's creating a whole new library called "Collections 1" at the "C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\collections" location.

What's troubling is, when I move the data from "C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\collections" to "\\{NAS}\Videos\_backup\collections" and run a scan, it doesn't detect them, only the old collections that were already there. I can't keep them at  "C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\collections" because it's a small drive and I need the space for running the server (running a Windows 10 install of Emby Server on a 32gb Kangaroo Mobile Computer hardlined up to a 40tb NAS).

Maybe make a symlink the folder to your backup\collections.  But I probably would do a portable install and place Emby somewhere beside the c drive.

Switched over to a portable install like you suggested, and suddenly it works now. Thanks!

Edit: Scratch that! It's still creating a new library whenever I create a new collection.

Hate to double-post, but I have an update.

So, apparently the last time I tried to run using a portable install, it wasn't actually running the portable installation. After a server restart it switched over, and prompted me to set up the new installation. I got it running on a basic configuration and attempted to use the Server Configuration Backup plugin to import my last backup... and it doesn't seem to be importing at all. My backups are detected, it's letting me get to the restore page, and when I click "Restore Now" I approve of the prompt and then it does nothing.

I had some problems with emby creating duplicate Collections folders after moving (copy & paste) emby from an old pc to a new build. Everytime I ran AutoBoxSets or created a new manual collection, I would get a new collections folder. The fix was to create a new db - remove/rename the existing db and run a full library scan - you could try doing this after setting up your collections and links where you want them. Nothing to lose except time lost recreating the db.

Please attach the emby server log. thanks.

Kinda weird, I went through the steps again before making the logs so anything that happened is fresh, and the server restarted after. Didn't seem to change anything, but definitely didn't happen last time.

@@Losey, which server log is from when you attempted the restore?

embyserver.txt was the last/most recent one, followed by the one marked 63705384199, then the one marked 63705384135, then 63705383792. The others came from the prior attempt.

Also do you have Emby Premiere?

And yes, I do have emby premiere, I made sure it was active on both the old one and the new one before trying.

The last two server logs show a Restore attempt are showing "System.Exception: System.Exception: Emby Backup trial has expired. Please purchase Emby Premiere at https://emby.media."errors.  Not seeing any attempts in the first 2 logs.

Does the emby server dashboard reflect your Premiere status?

Sorry for the delay, just got back from work. Checked on the server, and apparently the restore just needed time to process or something, as it's now displaying all of the users, libraries, and most of the metadata (currently at ~90% done scanning). And yes, Premiere status is visible. Thanks for your help - I was practically pulling my hair out from the extra stress, it's been a rough week IRL.

Ran a test creating a new collection and as before it's creating a new Collections library, but at least now it's on my NAS rather than my C drive, so I'm just moving my whole Collections to the new location under the portable installation's programdata\data\collections directory. That should address the original issue.
