Emby for Android Shield TV not playing back HDR on all titles

Plex... Ive seen a number of users mentioning that they have left Emby and gone back to Plex and if Im being honest, I am 99% sure I am going to do the same this weekend. 

 

The HDR and Live TV issues have gone on too long.

Seems the trend is much more the other way :)

 

Do you have an active thread about the Live TV issue you're experiencing?

Just get a power hungry HTPC :) I'm about to make mine more power hungry when I add an EVGA RTX 2060 XC Gaming, GPU :D

 

It plays EVERYTHING! :D

 

Jokes aside, this really needs to get fixed. Someone needs to own the issue, and resolve it. This is just going around and around.

@@ebr - which version of Exoplayer is in use in the ATV app ?

 

Sniper says that he has tested "with the Exoplayer demo app 2.9.3 and an LG C8 and the tv gots into HDR mode as expected".

Unfortunately most people having this issue seem to be using Plex for cropped HDR. If I recall correctly, you are one of those people aren't you? Yes people are coming to Emby from Plex far more than the other way around but Emby users are also relying on Plex until Emby fixes its issues, regardless of who's at fault. Eventually, people like me, get tired of running 2 servers and go with the one that plays files properly. 

 

Yeah there's a thread but the latest news is nothing can be done unless the upcoming Nvidia fixes it. It bothers me that Emby is the only app that has issues with Live TV.

If I didn't have TV's in 5 rooms that played media, this is what I would do. 

 

This really does need to get fixed as well as other things. Instead of adding new features, the outstanding issues should be resolved.

But you are using it for cropped HDR arent you? I cant remember if it was you that suggested it or someone else when I started having this issue.

Im on tapatalk so not sure I can link but its the “Live TV pausing but not in direct play” thread. The one you replied to me last week and said we’d have to wait for the update from NVidia to see if it fixes it.

Ah, right, thanks.  Still not really anyone else experiencing that though and I also cannot reproduce it so that does make it tough to track down.  I'm really just stabbing in the dark as for whether or not that is related to the Nvidia problem but you could test it by requesting the hotfix image from them...

We’re able to reproduce the Emby issue in 7.2.3. The good news is the issue is resolved in our next release. We don’t have a date for that to share but this issue looks like it’ll be resolved in the next SHIELD Experience update.

Here's a question. This may have been addressed, previously, I don't remember. Has anyone tried playing these movies directly in Exoplayer, outside of emby, on the shield? If so, what was the result?

So, the reason he couldn't reproduce initially must've been that he was on an internal build of the Shield firmware and they have fixed the issue in that.  Finally.

Yes, that was a requirement for me filing the issue with Google.

To be fair sniper had it fixed within hours.  He was never notified of the error on GitHub.  We should have gone directly to him long time ago

Actually, he was unaware and the issue was already fixed when he tested it.  So, one may assume that they did fix it due to the issue filed with Google but simply never communicated back to them/us that they had.
