Hi there,

I have noticed that the GENRES section for movies and series are different. Is that on purpose or a little flaw maybe? See the images below.

Genres in Movies are in nice tabs:

Genres in Series are tiles:

We have an upcoming release that makes the TV/Shows library have the same layout for genres as movies.

@@corey I would disagree that it is the right thing to do. I don’t know about other emby apps but iOS app and OSX web app has genres listed as it is on TV Shows genres on Apple TV at the moment. It is way better and more useful than genres listed at the left where you cannot sort/filter anything. I wouldn’t mind if it has any advantages but it doesn’t!

Anyway, isn’t the idea to have consistent UI/features as much as possible?

I prefer best of both, BUT ONLY on the condition that sort/filter buttons are added on top, when a category is selected on the left.

Having the categories on the left side AND having SORT/FILTER buttons on top, makes the app sort of “uniform” regarding cross platform basic functionality.

NOT having the sort/filter buttons is a step backward in genre tab, so please add those filter options in Movies and TV Shows genre tab.

Edit: added sort

It's certainly something we can look at adding in a future release.

Well why would you say something like that?

The feature is already there and it’s working...

@@corey @@Luke @@ebr Could you please try to explain why between two existing solutions you choose to keep the one which:

1. is different than other iOS/OSX apps 2. has none of the features the other one has?

We will make them consistent. Thanks.

Just to be clear @@Luke, what does the above mean:

  • A. keep TV Show genre tab in beta the same, as it is now in current stable

or

  • B. Add Sort AND Filter options in beta app to TV show Genre tab AND Movie Genre tab

Selecting a genre in osx web or ios app gives me a possibility to sort/filter AND to play all/shuffle selected genre. It is like browsing subcategories I made for my libraries. This is really great and useful feature (although nothing special per se).

Here’s the thing: since collections and playlists are regrettably not maintainable in my case (renaming/removing/sorting media files and it’s location is unavoidable) I am using emby genres as a way to categorize media across my libraries. Genres feature work per library AND it keeps it’s data in NFOs unlike collections and playlists it work like charm for what I want. And this is something that actually ebr and luke encouraged me to use while I was criticizing that collections are not respecting renaming/changing contained media files.

So, this Apple TV left tab view of genres (which I never criticized because I honestly thought it is “a work in progress” simplified solution of a feature like other things in Apple TV app) is missing sort/filter/play options feature and is also has problem loading titles from multiple libraries... that is: it is loading titles containing selected genre per library one by one, so if you have 10 libraries containing titles with selected genre, every time it reaches new library it throws you back to beginning.

Actually there is existing alternative for what I asked about: genre filter in libraries

I totally missed that it exists.

Anyway, there are two problems with it:

1. Selecting some genres (I didn’t notice any pattern) don’t show anything. Genre tabs is showing correctly that same genre. - this is true only for TV Shows, I didn’t reproduce in movie libraries.

2. Clicking on genres that has many letters (I would say more than 20) is widening and shrinking fields so you cannot see complete text anymore.

Could only test item 1 (in beta app), because in my language setup for the metadata provider, I don't have genre names that contain more than 20 characters.

Indeed for item 1, selecting multiple genres for the filter, results in zero results.

Also the logic for those filter option has bugs, but will report those in beta 11 topic, because I'm testing in beta and not in stable.
