v4 bug/different behavior with sub-folders

I'm a long-time Emby user and currently running v4.0.1.0 on a TS-453A.

Some of my movie folders have sub-folders containing pics or videos or other stuff related to that movie that I don't necessarily want to be available to server users, but keep because it's associated with the movie. In v3x Emby, these folders were ignored unless they were among the special folders listed in the Movie Naming list:

  • extras
  • specials
  • shorts
  • scenes
  • featurettes
  • behind the scenes
  • deleted scenes
  • interviews
  • trailers

Under v4, any movies that have the above folders, named correctly, make that media available under the movie, as always. But if there is a folder that isn't named as the above under a movie folder, Emby isn't displaying the poster (named "folder.jpg" on my system) for that movie. For example, a couple of movies had trailers under a folder called "trailer" instead of "trailers", and those were not displaying the folder.jpg that was sitting in the folder. Those were easy to fix by correcting the folder name, but, as I said, I have other subfolders with various things, such as extra photos from the movie set, etc. and so now some of my movies don't display the poster artwork.

I understand that I could delete those extra folders, but I'd prefer not to have to do so, and given that it was never a problem in pre-v4 versions of Emby, I presume this would be considered a bug, right?

I appreciate your feedback, and otherwise, v4 has been a solid upgrade for me.

if you don't want the files in these sub folders to appear in emby put a ".ignore" file in to the folder and they will disappear after the next scan

Ever tried to create one of those using Windows? LOL. I'm hoping there's a better solution than that.

Create a new text file, open in notepad and save as .ignore and change the save as type to "all files" and hit save.  But there are other ways if you have show file extentions enabled.

But can you give a specific example of folder structure and what your are seeing.

Yes you'll need to mark the folder as ignored. It was actually a bug before - that is, certain folder structures would cause video files to not be displayed at all. Now that this has been corrected, this is why those folders are showing up now.

A quick google would have told you how - or a bit of experimenting

Yep loads of times - one way is as H2P explained
