Question regarding native vs add-on mode and home videos/photos

Hi all,

Thanks for the great plugin! I have two questions regarding playback mode and support for home videos/photos:

1) From this post (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/46311-emby-mode-nativeadd-on/) I found the following description " Add-on(default): This playback mode is controlled by the add-on. You can direct play/direct stream/transcode and use the Emby cinema feature. It will also follow your parental access schedule, if you have it enabled. This is the only mode that will allow for remote playback." Does add-on mode support direct play (initially I though only native mode supports it)? If so how to enable it? I prefer add-on mode but HTTP stream doesn't work for blu-ray ISOs unfortunately, hence the question.

2) There were some threads discussing the support for home videos/photos and as I understand it was part of the plugin some time ago (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/28980-possible-to-exclude-home-videos/page-2), but is it still possible to add them? I cannot seem to find the  "dynamic" option as mentioned in the thread.

Thank you :)

1. Yes, in the add-on settings > playback > Disable Play from HTTP. It will use your network path to access content.

2. It should be located in the pictures home menu > pictures add-ons > emby.

Hi, thank you for the answer!

I'm still confused regarding 1). If I disable play from HTTP isn't it equivalent to switch from add-on to native mode (as I cannot find another way in the settings to do so)?

If possible in add-on mode to direct play, why should we still keep native mode then?

Native mode exists for those who want a setup that is fully compatible with Kodi. Some addons require the actual file paths (to load your /extras, etc.). Using add-on playback mode masks the path behind plugin://plugin.video.emby/ paths which are loaded dynamically. The path is requested from the server at playback time. This allows the add-on to control what happens at playback, therefore allowed for more emby features like trailers, and more. Direct play is supported by both modes, but only add-on playback mode can also support HTTP and transcoded playback.
