Unable to play media remotely

Hi Everyone,

I have been using Emby for several months now and am very happy with the server and apps. I travel quite a bit and the ability to watch my media via the web app on my laptop was one of the reasons I liked Emby.

Last week, after upgrading to server v3.0.85, I began having issues with the web app. I can log into the server but the images and backdrops take longer than usual to load. When I navigate to one of my library's and try to play something, I get the spinning circle for a bit and then it goes away and nothing plays. The backdrop for the media I am trying to play does get displayed.

When connecting locally using Emby Theater or the web app, all works perfectly. I installed the Emby app on my Android phone and everything plays perfectly both locally and remotely. I seem to be having issues only with the web app remotely.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the latest logs.......

Thanks in advance,

Guppy

Hi there, we're sorry to hear about this. Does the remote playback attempt produce an ffmpeg log, and if so, can we please see that? Thanks.

Hi Luke,

There were several ffmpeg logs. I have attached all......  I was able to play remotely via the Android app. I think these logs were from the Android playback..... I was finally able to play on my laptop by setting up a VPN connection from my server to the laptop... This worked but is a bit cumbersome when trying to share my media with family......

Thanks in advance for your help,

John

Hi Luke,

Thank you so much for taking the time to assist me with this.

I tried using the link provided. No changes were seen. I can navigate to the show I want to watch, but when I click play, It shows the backdrop of the show I selected and the playback control bar comes up but nothing further happens.

The only log generated is attached. There was no ffmpeg log created.

Thanks again for your assistance,

Guppy

Well in this log it appears you're using an ancient version of Firefox from 2008. Try updating that to the latest version of the browser.

Hi Luke,

I tried on a different laptop with a fresh install of Chrome and all is well. Not sure why my old laptop showed an outdated version of Firefox as I have been using that laptop for quite a while with no issues.

At least I now know that this is an issue with that laptop.

Thanks Luke for developing a great product.......

Guppy
