Metadata no longer updating

Hello, I have an issue with updating metadata automatically. I recently updated my Emby and various OS components on Linux Mint from whichever version of Emby was current around April last year. I've done some incidental (and a major) OS updates in the meantime, and this never occurred. After this, the metadata updating stopped, and the logs showed permission errors. I fixed these, as far as I can tell, using the ACL commands given in the permissions thread by Q-Droid on May 14th. Before doing this, I was unable to even manually edit the metadata (though the changes seemed to persist in the interface... I didn't restart Emby to check what was going on there).

 However, this does not seem to have fixed the issue totally. I can now add them manually, and see the nfo file has been edited. When requesting a metadata update, logs don't show much activity beyond (I presume) extracting a thumbnail using ffprobe and a call to OpenSubtitles. In fact I see no calls to non-local destinations except for the subs. I unticked and reticked all metadata related options in my library settings to no avail.

 

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Hi @capedcrusader, what example are we looking at here? What did you do, what did you expect to happen, and what actually happened? Thanks.

I pressed the "Refresh" button (lines 44 and 45) and expected it to do some call to TVDB or something along those lines, and to update episode metadata? I'm not sure what those 2 stack traces are about, I hadn't seen them before. In any case the little "Refreshing metadata" snackbar would pop up and disappear, but nothing gets updated. Mind you, this is also happening to episodes of shows that I already had in my collection, and updated with new encoding, so it's not a matter of the data not existing on those info providers.

What series and episode metadata fetchers are enabled on the library, and in what order?

TVDB/MovieDb/OpenMovieDB, in that order for both. I did notice a call to occurring to the MovieDB API when I attempted a season metadata refresh for another show, though that also had no effect. After this I turned on debugging and noticed that all 3 providers are called, but following those lines is a line that the provider returned no metadata.

Remember, I already had metadata on this show. At most, the season folders have been renamed to exclude leading zeros in the season number (artefact from moving to Sonarr), and the file extensions change from Avi/MP4 to mkv. Is it possible to get a view into the actual response from the APIs? Maybe my IP or API keys are banned or something?

We don't' rename your seasons. That's how people are able to create custom season names.

Yes, I know, I meant that the only difference in my file structure, when I changed the files to HD, is at most a difference in leading zeros and a change of file type.

First I need to understand the problem. What exactly is not updating that you are expecting to be updated? Can you please go over a specific example? Thanks.

Apologies for the delay, I'll try to expound more.

So I have just updated Season 6 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I moved from SD files to HD files. This is the old directory listing (I think the metadata directory is a leftover from using Sickbeard in the past):

Now, I've imported the new files using Sonarr. This is how the directory looks:

Essentially, only the extension has changed. So after importing, I kicked off the "Scan library files" function for the season to fix the files being pointed to the new paths (extensions), and whatever backend stuff is needed to work with the new files.  Now, the season display looks like this:

while an episode display looks like this:

Clearly, the metadata (title, episode number, actors, etc) are missing, though the season number is still filled in (presumably recognised from the directory). I can call the "refresh metadata" function on the episode or entire season, and nothing will get updated/filled in. As I documented this, some episodes (last ones of the season so not shown in the screenshot) seem to have metadata, but I think they just weren't deleted, rather than fetched anew, though I am unsure.

If I were to add a new series, the same happens: no metadata is added whatsoever. As I was documenting this, I just now noticed that adding a new film does seem to populate the metadata, so it would seem this is related to the TV show-specific fetchers. I have permuted the order and retried, and nothing changed.

The images for new import from Sonar, all your episode nfo files are gone.  So Emby is currently displaying Unidentied episodes as you can see filename and not description.  Where the first set of images show properly identified episodes.

What options do you have enabled on the library?

Not seeing any api metadata calls to provider only images.

If these are CIFS/SMB shares what are the mount options?

No odd settings as far as I know, see attached. I tried to refresh the season just now and only got some messages on the images being refreshed but not the metadata. I then turned on debugging and ran the metadata call for a single episode and got these additional messages:

These are HDDs directly installed and mounted onto the computer running the Linux Mint OS on which Emby is installed. No docker, no networking, straight install from OS. All locations in terms of added files (metadata, thumbnail files) are default.

It seems to work if I rename the files to "%show - S%sE%e - %title.ext" but not when using others listed on that page, such as "%sx%e"  . Has the list of naming conventions been changed, or is this something perhaps changed on the API?
