Audiobooks. Library "Prefer embedded titles over filenames". Bug?

So my Audiobooks library has "Prefer embedded titles over filenames" set on it.

I have also uninstalled Emby 4.6.3 and gone to DSM 7 and Emby 4.6.3 for DSM 7 and then upgraded to 4.6.4.

Basically, despite each audiobook track having metadata for TRACK #, Emby refuses to show the tracks in track order in LG app using horizontal theme.

So I did a workaround. In the filename of each title, I put the track number at the very beginning e.g "01", "02", "03".

Yay, its works on the web client and shows in track order now in FOLDERS view (VERTICAL Emby theme)

On the LG App, it' still random. Also, when you have tracks, its better to do small cover art and then track name next to it like a list.

Here are the issues:

1. 'Prefer embedded title over filename' setting on audiobook library really should mean embedded metadata taking preference and actually use track numbering set as the ordering of the tracks

2. Embedded cover art for each track in a album (book) may be different, but Emby refuses to show each one for each track and just shows Folder.jpg for all of them. Some episodes/tracks have their own cover art as they have the chapter or track name on the cover art.

3. In LG app, huge cover art displayed for each track of an audio book should be avoided in favour of a list with small/medium cover art next to each track (like Emby Web App). A screen full of big square cover arts for multiple tracks; not nice.

4. Actually show the track number next to the track when in 'Folders' view if its exists in metadata ID3v2 tag. Maybe a sort by track # option if you want as well (sticky).

5. The general release ROKU app (latest as of 04/07/2021) makes a mess in the Emby Vertical theme on home screen in' Latest Media' for Audiobooks as it randomly uses a combination of folder.jpg, backdrop.jpg for the cover art picture despite all tracks have embedded cover art of same size, and folders have the usual logo.png, backdrop.jpg, thumb.jpg in them. All other Emby apps, even Apple TV get it correct.

To use an audiobook - you need to listen to tracks in correct order and need the ">>" button back in the player so titles that are one track with multiple chapters can be navigated easily to get through what might be several hours in a track.

Luke can these fixes which most exist throughout most Emby apps, be addressed ASAP as this is basic functionality that is wrong or missing?

I shudder to think of waiting months/years for basic fixes. Audiobooks needs some serious attention please....

Thanks.

Hi, you also use Emby Theater for windows, right? How does that compare?

Ok, using latest Emby Theatre (MS Store) at time of writing - comments in italics and bold:

1. (No comment as point 1 was a recommendation in original quote.)

2. Embedded cover art for each track in a album (book) may be different, but Emby refuses to show each one for each track and just shows Folder.jpg for all of them. Some episodes/tracks have their own cover art as they have the chapter or track name on the cover art. Emby Theatre also seems to use just one artwork for all the tracks in an album too despite each individual track having its own embedded artwork that is different for each track (as each track has the track name on the cover artwork)

3. In LG app, huge cover art displayed for each track of an audio book should be avoided in favour of a list with small/medium cover art next to each track (like Emby Web App). A screen full of big square cover arts for multiple tracks; not nice.  Emby Theatre does the correct behaviour. Small artwork next to the track name, not huge squares of cover art for each track.

4. Actually show the track number next to the track when in 'Folders' view if its exists in metadata ID3v2 tag. Maybe a sort by track # option if you want as well (sticky). Emby Theatre does not show the track numbers (annoyingly) if they exist in the metadata when in FOLDERS view but does show in correct numerical order if the filename has a number for the track at the front of the filename of the track (01, E01). The LG app doesn't even do this!

This is correct on Emby Theatre. It correctly uses the embedded front Folder artwork from the track.

To use an audiobook - you need to listen to tracks in correct order and need the ">>" button back in the player so titles that are one track with multiple chapters can be navigated easily to get through what might be several hours in a track. Emby Theatre does not have these controls to go back and forth chapters in one track.

Hope this helps...

Thanks.

Emby Theatre does the correct behaviour.

OK Great, thanks. That means it is resolved in the next update to the LG app.

Yes we're adding support for track numbers in folder view. Thanks for the feedback.
