Hi,

I would like to have support for direct stream for (AIFF, FLAC,WAV) to pcm.
On plex this works for aiff on android, chromecast and desktop applications.

Chromecast in particular needs pcm codec, and for android / desktop applications?
They may even play aiff without conversion.

Awaiting your response,

Joannes Wyckmans

It does transcodes to aac 384 kbps, but I know from Plex that android mobile (and android tv) support all PCM formats natively, or using transcodes to PCM format(unpacking PCM from container)

PCM format examples:

WAV, AIFF, ...

Just for testing purposes, try playing these with our android and chromecast apps with user transcoding permissions restricted. The result of that will tell us how easily this could be supported or not.

Hi. I would like to add to this thread that currently the android tv app is properly direct playing aiff container (2.0.48g registered)

Thank you for that.

Would like IT for android mobile aswell, but that might be on the way?

I found that the android beta app seems to correctly playback aiff.

Thanks already, I cannot wait for IT to get out of beta.

IT doesn't state it is directplaying though. It States transcodes to aac 384kbps. Maybe the server Needs to be beta aswell?

When playing with what app?

Emby for android 3.2.19.

I opted in for beta because of the regular app stating transcodes.

My ears seem to hear uncompressed.

but I AM not totally sure.

So beta app seems to be uncompressed, regular app seems to be compressed, which only regular app seems to do transcoding.

Both give transcodes in server dashboard

It might, I need to test further. But it states transcoding, so that might be wrong.
The android TV app sounds satisfactory, like the ios app does.

3.2.20 beta sounds even better. However, technically the 3.2.19 is better with most songs.

3.2.20 is more balanced overall, more depth

Are you sure you don't transcode?

It seems I get transcode.

I have done some testing, but the quality seems to degrade.

Might be my tv transcoding to the optical interface, but, Just asking to be sure. It sounds more like flac then PCM

We'd have to look at an example in detail:

@Luke Hi. I can get AIFF playback on my phone using android mobile app, but it refuses to playback aiff in 24 bit. Can you please elaborate current support any further?

16bit 44.1khz aiff plays back fine.

Hi, what happens when you try?

@Luke It says it cannot play. (AIFF 16BIT does direct play, Just as 16&24bit FLAC does). In VLC media player it also Plays 24bit AIFF locally.

But using emby app aiff only Plays at 16bit.

I currently haven't installed emby atm.

I Will try when there is a fix.

I have android 11 on Oppo Reno. Oppo is a Chinese hifi brand that started selling smartphones a while back.

If I remember correctly they also specifically stated AIFF support among other containers.

I hope this helps.
