Trakt no longer synching collections but watched still works

It looks like my system stopped updating Trakt with new episodes a while back but I hadn't noticed as it's mainly "watched" stuff I keep an eye on and Emby/Trakt are correctly updating everything I watch every day.

The logs show:

Is this likely to be an Emby or a Trakt issue? (Both the scheduled and manual running of the Trakt "Sync library to trakt.tv" fail with the same errors.)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve?

Thanks!

Hi there, can you please provide some discussion of an example and attach the complete emby server log? thanks.

So for example yesterday I watched The Sopranos S03E13 and in both Emby and Trakt this correctly shows as watched yesterday.

However, Emby also knows I added it to my collection on 17/05/21 but according to Trakt it is not in my collection even though Trakt knows I watched it.

The attached log is from a restart followed by a manual Scheduled Task "Sync library to trakt.tv".

Thanks.

@MyronAub check the external id's of the Sopranos series in Emby. Does it have a tvdb id, moviedb id, or both?

Yes to tvdb, no to moviedb, but it does also have imdb and zap2it:

TheTVDB Id: 75299

IMDb Id: tt0141842

Zap2It Id: EP00290992

For reference, it isn't just The Sopranos Season Four but also other episodes/seasons recently added that are not showing in my Trakt Collection such as Queen Of The South and The Handmaid's Tale.

I've just looked at the full "Recently Collected" list in Trakt and there's a lot more weirdness:

  1. I added the entire The Sopranos Season Six (21 episodes) to Emby on 19/05/21 but Trakt shows 16 episodes Collected that day 19/05/21, 2 episodes Collected on 25/05/21, 2 episodes Collected on 27/05/21 and 1 episode Collected on 03/06/21. So to summarise I added 21 episodes to Emby on the same day but Trakt thinks the episodes were added over the course of four different days some 18 days apart (also see UPDATE at the end of this post.)
  2. I added Season Eight of Homeland to Emby in March 2020, Trakt now thinks I added the entire season yesterday.
  3. I added several episodes of different shows yesterday and even after a manual Trakt Synch none are shown as being Collected in Trakt.
  4. For balance, I added some movies to Emby over the last few days and they are correctly shown as Collected in Trakt
  5. For further balance, I added an episode of Blindspot to Emby last week and that is also correctly shown as Collected in Trakt

So basically sometimes my Collection in Trakt is correctly added to and other times new TV episodes are either added very late (or perhaps re-added with the wrong date) or not at all.

In case it is relevant I do have a decent sized library of over 20,000 TV episodes spread over 24 folders (none of which are excluded for Trakt) on various hard drives. I updated to the latest Emby 4.6.2.0 yesterday and manually ran a Scheduled Task Trakt Sync; the logs (attached) again show that for some reason nearly 1000 Episodes are not being synced correctly with Trakt.

UPDATE: I have just noticed that there has been a further change since I started writing this post (perhaps due to either the overnight or manual Trakt synch just actioned.) Yesterday Trakt had 16 episodes of The Sopranos Season Six Collected on 19/05/21, Today Trakt has only 15 episodes of The Sopranos Season Six Collected on 19/05/21 with the missing episode now Collected on 05/06/2021. Fingers crossed this gives a clue as to where the problem lies...

Just to update further, I've added a couple of Movies to my Emby library and since last Saturday several new TV Episodes every single day but only the Movies are showing as Collected in Trakt; according to Trakt I have not added any TV Episodes since last Saturday so the problem does appear to only affect Episodes.

So the problems are getting worse with Emby/Trakt synching or at least manifesting differently.

Not content with having 1001 episodes that are in Emby that have not updated in Trakt as being in my collection, it appears that Emby is now telling Trakt that I have episodes in my collection that actually I don't!

For example, according to Trakt, yesterday I "Collected" Roman Empire 2x03 and the day before I collected Roman Empire 2x04 but I do not have any Roman Empire Season 2 episodes in my Emby library. This anomaly has highlighted a pattern that will hopefully give a clue as to what the problem is:

Sunday 13 June

Actually added to Emby: War of the Worlds (2019) 2x03

Trakt reports the following added instead: Roman Empire 2x03, Utopia (AU) 2x03

Saturday 12 June

Actually added to Emby: War of the Worlds (2019) 2x04, Manifest 3x12, Manifest 3x13, Supergirl 6x07, Black Mirror 5x01, Black Mirror 5x02, Black Mirror 5x03

Trakt reports the following added instead: Roman Empire 2x04, Utopia (AU) 2x04, Cheers 3x12, Cheers 3x13

So to summarise, when I add any new TV episode to Emby, one of three things seems to happen:

  1. The wrong Show but correct Season/Episode number is added to Trakt
  2. Two wrong Shows but with the correct Season/Episode numbers are added to Trakt
  3. No Show/Season/Episode is added to Trakt

Combine the above with the "Error Trakt: TraktResponse episode not Found:{}" in the logs and it seems Emby is sending the wrong Show ID to Trakt. However it is only doing this when synching Collections, everything I watch is being correctly synched to Trakt as Watched.

Any thoughts on whether this is a bug or a corrupted database table and if the latter is there an easy way to rebuild the table?

Yes and Yes.

I've been running 4.6.4.0 for a while now and added "DC's Legends of Tomorrow S06E14" to my Emby library the other day but Trakt thinks I added "Arrow S06E14"...

I'm assuming it's a problem/corruption with the Series ID that Emby sends to Trakt; most times when I add an episode to Emby it no longer appears in Trakt but when the episode does appear it is the wrong series name but the correct season and episode number (and sometimes TWO wrong series names with correct season/episode number - see 12/06/21 below).

Examples:

04/09/21 Actually added to Emby: Motherland: Fort Salem 2x10

04/09/21 Trakt reports the following added instead: Arrow 2x10 [Arrow was actually added 18 months ago]

30/08/21 Actually added to Emby: DC's Legends of Tomorrow 6x14

30/08/21 Trakt reports the following added instead: Arrow 6x14 [Arrow was actually added 18 months ago]

13/06/21 Actually added to Emby: War of the Worlds (2019) 2x03

13/06/21 Trakt reports the following added instead: Roman Empire 2x03 [never actually added], Utopia (AU) 2x03 [actually added 6 years ago]

12/06/21 Actually added to Emby: War of the Worlds (2019) 2x04, Manifest 3x12, Manifest 3x13

12/06/21 Trakt reports the following added instead: Roman Empire 2x04, Utopia (AU) 2x04, Cheers 3x12, Cheers 3x13

For completeness I've added a couple of different episodes to Emby each day for the last few days and none of them appear as Collected in Trakt. However any movies I add to Emby always appear correctly in my Trakt collection.

What I would suggest is using the metadata editor in Emby Server at the series level for those series, and check that the external ids (tvdb, moviedb, imdb) are correct. Please let me know if this helps. Thanks.

I've just checked the first few in my list that were getting mixed up and "Arrow", "Motherland: Fort Salem" and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" do all have the correct IMBD and TVDB External Ids in Emby (and all have blank MovieDb Ids.)

As an aside I ripped a few more discs from my "24" series boxset to add to Emby a few days ago and they have correctly appeared in my Trakt collection so sometimes it is working perfectly.

Further updates/examples:

Yesterday I added Mare of Easttown 1x07 to Emby but Trakt incorrectly thinks I added Arrow 1x07 instead

A few days ago I added Billions 5x08 to Emby but Trakt doesn't know it is in my Collection.

A few days ago I added Mock The Week 18x03 and watched it, Trakt knows I watched it but doesn't know it is in my Collection.

All shows mentioned have the correct external IDs.

hi @MyronAub are you still running into this with the latest update to the trakt plugin?

The Trakt plugin was updated to 3.5.2 on 19/10/21 but sadly, yes,  my Trakt "collection" details are still all over the place.

Over the weekend I added several episodes of Spooks Season 2 and they correctly shows as being added to my Trakt Collection on the correct days. I also added a couple of movies last week and they correctly show in Trakt as being collected on the correct days.

However at the same time I also added other episodes from other shows to Emby which do not appear as collected in Trakt (although Trakt does know that I've watched some of them so Emby is sending the correct Show data for watched episodes but something is going wrong somewhere when Emby sends collected episodes data .)

And again I added one episode "Legends of Tomorrow s07e03" but that shows in Trakt as "Arrow s07e03" being added on that day (when it was actually added 18 months ago); so while often newly added episodes do not appear at all in Trakt, sometimes newly added episodes appear as the correct season and episode number but the wrong show!

For reference in case it is relevant I have a fairly large library; the Emby Stats plugin reports I have over 700 TV Series and over 21,000 episodes just in case there's some magic number the Trakt plugin can't handle.

Is there a way to "reset" the Emby/Trakt relationship? Should I consider uninstalling the Trakt plugin, rebooting the Emby server, re-installing the Trakt plugin and then manually running "Sync library to trakt.tv"?

In my case syncing Collections to trakt works, but only manually. Not sure how to set it for automatic.

There is deifnitely media added to locations tracked by me (the logged-in user), so it should be triggering the sync.

How do you do it manually?

Go to Dashboard / Scheduled Tasks / Sync Library to trakt.tv and press the "play" button to the right.  You can see the last time the sync ran was over a day ago, and much media has been added since. And, the last sync was a manual one as well.

Ok so if you're wondering how to surrogate automate that, simply click on the scheduled task to set a schedule for it.

Hi @Luke

Did you change something in the Trakt plugin to address the issue in this thread? I ask because I have the opposite problem. I don't want anything synced to Trakt's collection list, I only want watched states to be synced. Therefore, in the Trakt plugin I have the option "Sync collection during scheduled task" unticked.

However, I have just noticed every time a movie is added to Emby, it is immediately pushed to Trakt's collection, which I do not want. The logs show this at the time Emby adds a new movie:

2022-01-12 00:46:50.517 Info HttpClient: POST https://api.trakt.tv/sync/collection

This only happens for movies, not tv shows, so something does seem to have gone wrong in how it checks the setting.

This used to work OK so I'm wondering if one of the recent changes made to the plugin forgot to check the setting before deciding to update the Trakt collection?

It looks like the current option is only intended to apply to the scheduled task and not realtime events. We'll have to look at if it's a good idea to change that or not.

Thanks, perhaps another option might be needed then. In other Trakt tools, collection sync is usually a separate option to enable/disable completely.

I too was running into this issue. Movies are syncing fine, what I'm watching is syncing fine - just my TV collection is not getting synced/added to Trakt.

When I looked at my Trakt history of collected series, the last series that it showed I collected was Friends from nearly a year ago.

When I looked at the logs in Emby, I saw a few errors related to the Trakt syncing, and Friends (as indicated by the ID) in particular:

I looked at my Friends episodes and noticed for whatever reason, some had not been correctly matched to a particular episode ID from IMDB or TVDB. So what I thought was happening, is there was some sort of Friends episode maybe that is preventing syncing from happening - but the logs don't say which file name. It simply lists the IMDB and TVDB numbers (which both seem to correspond to IMDB and TVDB correctly as Friends).

What I thought to try to fix this is simply fix the episodes that aren't being correctly identified. In order to find these, I went to the following:

1. Dashboard
2. Reports
3. Change dropdown from Movies to Episodes
4. Click the 3 dot settings icon right next to it
5. Click Filter on the newly opened sidebar
6. Only have "Missing Tvdb Id" checked.

What this does is show you all your media files that haven't been able to be scraped (due to wonky file names mostly, in my case, I had some "Special (S00)" episodes that were screwing up). But I went down the list and fixed everything that was there so that the report no longer showed any files. Friends and some others I wasn't even aware of.

Then I went and did the aforementioned manual Trakt sync (though just allowing it to do it on its own would probably suffice) and it fixed my issue. It did take quite a bit of time to sync the rest of the series I had added to Trakt - not sure if it was due to how many I had collected, or if the API has some sort of rate limiting to it - either way, this fixed my issue. After about ~30 minutes, all shows were showing correctly collected on my Trakt profile.
