New Plugin - Rating Poster Database

None of this hypothetical discussion about features not even in play at this time affects the ability of your plug-in to be in the catalog.  That is based on stability and user-demand.  All of the metadata has some degree of gray area I believe but rating data is something that the providers of that data do value highly and its why we no longer have RT reviews in Emby.

@ebr

I didn't expect it to but thank you for confirming it.

Given the requirements I doubt the plugin will ever make it to your catalog. There is interest, but the primary issue here is that users expect free or very cheap services. Although there's nothing wrong with that I can't reduce the price of RPDB at this time, so the plugin will probably get stuck in limbo.

As the Dev Lead at Stremio it was fun meeting you, @cayars , @Luke and seeing how you handle things with Emby. So I enjoyed my time around ur forum anyway. 🙂

Yes they do :).  The "internet culture" has created the illusion for most people that many things are "free" when they really aren't.  The costs are just hidden from them (or people are actually stealing without even realizing it).  Very few things are actually free.  Someone is paying for it somehow.

Latest version of the RPDB Emby Plugin supports settings default poster language.

I'm looking into into a way to get extended data about the movies / series from an Emby Metadata Plugin for the poster badges, but I've been unable to find any yet, the docs aren't very specific regarding such extended info. (video resolution, audio channels, video encoding, video container, etc)

If anyone can help by pointing me in the right direction it would be appreciated, as I presume Emby already has such data, it uses ffprobe if I'm not mistaken.

Hi.  Those would be properties of the media streams within the media sources for a given item.

Does anyone know how to set the priority or RPDB?  I have been using for quite some time and it has worked wonderfully.  In emby however, I am having an issue once I combined the TV and 4K TV library to utilize the "Merge across folders" I am getting the ratings poster to populate just fine and the media that only has "4K" media will show the 4K media poster badge.  If I go to the Metadata manager and browse thru the 4K TV library I can see the posters there. All the meta-ID's are matching.  I have modified the config file to have 4K TV scanned first thinking it is. a first come first serve issue but that is not the case it seems.  I attached an example of show called Upload for reference. In the image It may be little but can for sure see it lol.  Also noticed when I am in the "Suggested" tab that under recently added media it will show the 4K badge poster there.  Any help would be appreciated.

I like very much RPDB,but on Emby on syno server you have to be a specialist to install it via ssh,it's not for normal people, and my syno is a 220j and doesn't support docker.

@MonoiEmbyThe problem with Synology NAS is that it's a closed ecosystem (like Apple) and intentionally makes it overly complicated to install anything outside of their store.

It may be worth making an official RPDB app for Synology NAS, but we haven't had many users that requested support for Synology NAS yet, if we see the interest in such devices increase we will buy such a NAS (although they are pretty expensive) and dedicate the time to creating an official app for it.

@ebrIt's been almost 2 years since I created this forum topic. Would u please consider adding the RPDB plugin to the official Emby plugin catalog? That would also be (a better) solution for those using Emby + Synology NAS that want to also use RPDB posters.

I could provide a script you can setup in Task Scheduler that would move a plugin from a known share/folder to it's proper location setting ownership and permissions.

Or maybe I could show how to do this in the GUI:

I've been reluctant to show how to do this as Synology hid this for a reason. :)

For myself I'm doing this on ssh level, but I'd appreciate if you could provide a script-

I'm leaning more towards the GUI but I want to test a couple things first. Since Synology didn't do this by default but choose to hide these areas I want to try and lean toward that decision as much as possible so what I'm thinking is to make this only available to the admin account.  This way you can keep the "admin" account disabled and only enabled when needed.

Every Synology system has that account but for security it should normally be disabled and only enabled when needed, otherwise if left enabled there's an account everyone knows is on the system, making a hack much easier than trying to guess both a password and account.

What I'm thinking is to make this available via the task scheduler by manually running a task when needed.  It will enable the Admin account, stop EmbyServer so that changes can be made. There will be another task to run that disables this from the GUI, disables the Admin account and restarts EmbyServer. After running the first task you would logout of DSM and relog back in as the Admin account.  After running the second step if logged in as the Admin you would get kicked and need to relog back in again.

Let me know what you guys think about that.  I believe that keeps things secure, keeps you from making changes when Emby Server is running and will provide for good security as you will only need to login with the Admin account on an as needed basis.

Now, once you see how easy it actually is to do, you can set it up anyway you want but do so using your own knowledge of security needed.

Sound fair?

Carlo

@jarubais the plugin working? I've been using the folders app but wanted to try to plugin. Having issues figuring out how to get Emby to recognize that it's been extracted into the Plugins folder. Thanks

@sponThe plugin should work fine, but the folders app has many more features. It seems that the Emby team is still reluctant to add the RPDB plugin in their official catalog of plugins, which is why not many users use it, so I didn't invest more time into expanding its features.

@ebrBut I will keep pinging them through the years, maybe they will accept it one day?

Thanks for the reply! The issue I'm having now is getting the plugin to be recognized by Emby at all. I extracted it into the plugins folder and restarted, but it doesn't appear in my list of plugins in the server.

sorry @jarubaI misinterpreted the instructions and had the plugin in a sub folder. I moved the contents to the plugin folder itself and it's working fine now. Thank you.
