Emby App on Firestick 4K - failed to sign in

Hi all,

I have Emby Server running from one of the hosting provider and using this since 1yr.

Kinds and myself have been using the client on our PC and Android phones and it is working all fine.

Bought Firestick 4K last week, installed Emby App, manually entered the Server details but when I try to enter the User ID and password it keeps failing. Prompting "invalid User ID or Password" Which is not true because its the same details I am using on my PC and phone.

Please suggest/advise on what is missing or wrong.

Thanks in advance,

Rik

Are you seeing any failed attempts in your emby dashboard ?  If not, then it's not even reaching your emby server.

Are you entering the full URL path and Fully qualified domain name - or IP ?

ie

https:\\myembyFQDN + Port 8920 or

http:\\myembyFQDN  + port 8096 if not using SSL/TLS ?

You may be using 80/443 for the ports - it depends if you have configured this.

Hi RBJTech,

Thanks for the reply. The port is what it displays when signing in to the Firestick.

But my Emby Server is configured with port:29244

I access my Emby as follows: http://xxx.xxx.xx.xxx:28244/

I am not sure how to get this working.

Hi.  Did you enter that port in the proper field when trying to connect from the Fire TV?

Can you attempt to connect and then use the "Send Logs" button on the sign in screen - then come back here and tell me exactly what time you did that?

Thanks.

Hi EBR,

I have entered the port number in the correct field and have also clicked the "send logs" button few times.

If you need the User ID then pls let me know.

Okay, if I found your proper log then there are a couple issues.  One is that the port you specified above doesn't appear to be the one being used - but it does look like it is getting far enough to get rejected with a 401.

Also, you have installed the Google version of the app onto a Fire TV.  You need to uninstall that and install the proper Fire TV version from the store.

Finally, can you please post the server log that corresponds with that attempt to log in?

Hi EBR,

I did a search from the Firestick option, found the first Emby App and installed it.

Pls see the attached, uninstalling it now.

Hi EBR,

I uninstalled the app, searched it again from Firestick and there is only one Emby available.

Re-installed this and still the same issue. Pls see the screen shots.

Your server is throwing an error on the login.

ok - so connectivity to the server itself is good otherwise you would not see the server selection.

On the emby server, are you seeing failed login attempts shown in the dashboard ?

Have any device restrictions been set for the user you are trying ?

For testing, I would create a brand new user with a very basic password and see if that works ?

Hi RBJTech / EBR,

New user created and the same issue . . .  invalid User ID and/or Password

Will test this again from start and copy the logs here

Please attach the entire server log file instead of trying to copy/paste snippets.  Thanks.

As a test - change the port from 29244 to 8920 if SSL or 8096 if not.

It maybe something silly like the FireTV stick client is only passing 4 characters or something like that ?

That cannot be exactly it because we are correctly contacting the server.

The server is throwing a 500.  If we can see that log, we'll learn why.

Of course, there could be something on the server end choking in that regard.  We need to see that server log and then we'll know what is up.

Hi RBJTech / EBR,

no luck . . .

created a new user in Emby

signed in with the new user in the browser - it was successful

tried to sign in with the same user in Firestick - invalid User Id or Password error

Where can I post the Emby logs?

The log you gave me (from 4-3) does not correspond to the app log above (from 4-1) and also does not appear to have a login request in it.

However, it is absolutely full of network errors that are probably related to your problem.

Every network operation is throwing this error:

System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: An asynchronous socket operation is already in progress using this SocketAsyncEventArgs instance. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: An asynchronous socket operation is already in progress using this SocketAsyncEventArgs instance.

I would try restarting the machine the server is on.

I have give up  . . . 😞

Could we try a remote support session on Monday to look at this with you and help you get this resolved?

I just ordered a Firestick 4K and should have it on Sunday so I'll have the exact same device you have.
