I need details of an actual sample to see what the video, audio and sub tracks are to know why it isn't working.  Also the server log and any ffmpeg logs at the time when you test playing this same file.

Turn off the subtitle before you start playback.  Does it DirectPlay now?

And also try turning off hardware transcoding (as a test), with and without the subs

I turn off "Allow video playback that requires transcoding" and "Allow video playback that requires conversion without re-encoding " and video plays finally. Thank you.

Weird is i dont remember change any of it.

Anyway thank you for pointing me out. But anyway new version of app will be great.

That's good for a test, but you want to turn them back on as you will have other problems.   It's better that we find the real problem.

Can you please try these two (with the transcoding and conversion options turned back on):

  • Turn off the subtitle before you start playback
  • Turn off hardware transcoding -with subtitles on
  • Turn off hardware transcoding -with subtitles off

Allow video playback that requires transcoding Yes

Allow video playback that requires conversion without re-encoding Yes

Turn off the subtitle before you start playback - video transcode and hang app

Turn off hardware transcoding -with subtitles on - video transcode and hang app

Turn off hardware transcoding -with subtitles off - video transcode and hang app

Looks like no effect.

-----------

Allow video playback that requires transcoding No

Allow video playback that requires conversion without re-encoding No

Turn off the subtitle before you start playback - video play

Turn off hardware transcoding -with subtitles on - video play

Turn off hardware transcoding -with subtitles off - video play

Thanks.  Unfortunately this is not the right way to fix this, so it appears that you have other issues that we need to resolve

Is it all movies with a problem or just some?

Let's start simple and try one thing.

  • Turn on debug logging
  • Turn off hardware acceleration
  • Rotate the log (in scheduled tasks)
  • Turn off subtitles
  • Try playing something

Please attach the server log and any ffmpeg logs from this playback session.  Also attach the media info for this file.  Hopefully we can see what's going wrong.

What I see I have problem with 4k movies in x265 codec. HD movies with x264 play fine either way. I will test it later when I get back from work.

After i perform tests below movie cant play no matter of settings. Only when i turn off subtitles it play. Which is weird because when turn off settings below it usually play with subtitles.

Allow video playback that requires transcoding No

Allow video playback that requires conversion without re-encoding No

I try  HD movie with x264 codec with subtitles ON and it play always.

Here are my logs.

@softworkz, you might want to have a look at this one, it's related to HW transcoding.  This file needs to transcode as it has unsupported TrueHD audio and PGS subs that need burning in, but playback doesn't start.  For some reason the ffmpeg log is incomplete, is it possible that the ffmpeg process crashed?  Is there anything useful you can conclude from these two logs?

@David Patt, do you have the ffmpeg logs for the HW OFF SUB OFF and HW ON SUB OFF server logs?

Only ffmpeg log was created with HW ON SUB ON test.

Which audio track did you use in those tests?

TrueHD should always be trying to transcode.

Please make sure you have all the options on, then try again

i choose always AAC stereo  or  AC3 if no other option avalaible (sound only go from tv (LG) in this case no need to play more channels) , TRUEHD 7.1 is used on my Android TV with speaker system.

Will make test tomorrow

OK, so if you are selecting AAC or AC3 before playback then that explains why we have no ffmpeg logs for those tests.

I think we need to work on just one example here and make sure we clear on what we're testing.  Don't worry about testing the other things for now.

From your earlier logs, I'm looking at this file: Extraction.2020.2160p.NF.WEBRip.DD+5.1.HDR.x265-AJP69.mkv

Can you please just test this file without any subtitles selected?  The video and audio should both be supported and it should DirectPlay without any transcoding.

Please make sure all the playback transcoding/re-encoding settings are turned on.

If it plays fine, then we can try the next thing.

If it does not, please supply all logs from this session (with debug logging turned on)
