If I play the actual video outside of Emby on Samsung, it plays just fine. Bret Can you confirm the server version? Have you tried refreshing the metadata for this file on the server, then retesting? Please confirm if it is DirectPlay, DirectStream or Transcode during playback? Please also attach any log files created during the test, preferably with debug logging enabled. Thanks
thekingpin 19 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I am also having this issue after importing my home video and photo library. Media is shot from a variety of smartphones. The orientation on most videos via direct play is skewed wrong. Sometimes setting video transpose to 1080p fixes the issue. Also noticed that some videos with lower original resolution show up properly. Has/is this issue been/being addressed? Or is there some fix we can do on the side?

bmflagg 21 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 (edited) I Server is 4.8.8 Software Encoders are default (H.264 and h.265) Attatched the log file.. near the bottom where you see the ========== is where it starts. As for transcoding, direct play etc... , I can't find it in the admin portal, but I just accept the defaults during installation if that helps. Server is currently on a QNAP box.. The cell phone take with is a Samsung S21 I believe at that time. embyserver.txt Edited September 10, 2024 by bmflagg

Hi, sure, here is the confirmation of those questions: Can you confirm the server version? Emby 4.8.8.0 Have you tried refreshing the metadata for this file on the server, then retesting? Yes, it did not help. The issue very much appears to be on the client app side for Samsung TV. All my other clients, Samsung Phone, MacBook are displaying the videos correctly. In case of the phone of course it has auto rotate. Please confirm if it is DirectPlay, DirectStream or Transcode during playback? As said previously, it is mostly direct play 4K H264. Sometimes, transcoding to lower resolution fixes the issue. Please also attach any log files created during the test, preferably with debug logging enabled. Logs attached and also a screenshot of the particular example file. embyserver.txt Edited September 10, 2024 by thekingpin
SamES 1001 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 @bmflagg@thekingpin, thanks for the logs. Some models need to force the rotation on the server, I've added your 2021 models to this list. It should be in the next client update. There may still be an issue as there were some server-side improvements needed as well. I can't recall if these are completed and which server version they're in. Please let me know what it looks like after the next client update. 1

bmflagg 21 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Thanks for the update and follow up! Will check at EOM for the new USB release. thanks again! 1
tsvetelin 1 Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 It's past the end of September, so I was eager to get the new version. I am with the 4.8.10.0 server and sideloaded 1.9.0 onto the Samsung TV. Vertically shot videos are no longer smashed, and the aspect ratio is honored BUT the video is rotated, so in this video of a beautiful waterfall, the water flows from left to right, not from top to bottom. I logged out, logged in, rescanned the library, and rebuilt the metadata - still the same.
SamES 1001 Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 Can you please show the media info at the bottom of the details page for this video?

gwadd 1 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 (edited) This isn't just affecting iOS (iPhone) videos. Have the exact same issue with videos taken on multiple Android devices (Samsung S24+ and Samsung S25) and played back via Emby on Samsung TV app. Running Emby server 4.8.8.0 on Synology NAS. Playing the videos via Emby on a Windows PC or Android phone, orientation is correct for all videos. Playing them via Emby on Samsung 2022 TV model QA75Q70CAWXXY close to half of all videos taken from the above phones have incorrect orientation. Interestingly, all video thumbnails have correct orientation. But when played they go sideways and sometimes even upside down. Edited April 27 by gwadd 1
KarlHungus67 6 Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 This is more than 4 years since I've opened this topic. I'm glad is still active, but unfortunately, I had to find another solution to see my video on my TV. Too bad for Emby, which is still a great program, but I'm disapointed how issue like these are managed.
