Oopsjoppe 0
Tried to find someone else with the same issues but haven't found any threads, is this anyone is experiencing? Everything has been running perfectly until one day when no one on my server can cast anywhere. Have restarted, turned of hardware acceleration etc etc but nothing helps. I can connect to the chromecast but when I cast it just loads forever and nothing starts. Any ideas? See logs. embyserver.txt
Luke 36886
Hi, this means that although the casting app can reach your Chromecast device, your Chromecast device cannot reach your Emby Server. I notice in your log you are using https. What kind of certificate are you using? If you're using https, then you need to use a certificate that Chromecast devices will trust, because if doesn't there is no way for us to force it to accept it. Oopsjoppe 0
Thanks, you seems to be on something. It's strange that it's been working for 2 years and suddenly stops without changes. Regarding your certificate questions it's a typical wildcard certificate (not self signed) sha264 2048 bits. When browsing with chrome it fully accept it without warnings or messages but maybe the chromecast requirements are different? Are there any online certificate tests? It's been working fine for years but maybe they have changed something. Also, it seems to be working to chromecast while on the same subnet, but I guess it's still using the certificate so that might rule that issue out? It's remotely the issues have appeared. Nothing related to networking? Any different ports used by chromecast? I have never opened anything else than the ports specified under network. Luke 36886
On the same subnet it will use your local lan ip address over plain http without the certificate. The only way to test this I guess would be to temporarily disable ssl and try over plain http.
Oopsjoppe 0
Alright I'll do that. I though the app required https to run but that might be legacy nowadays
Luke 36886
The iOS app itself does not require https. The Chromecast receiver also does not require it, but if you use it, it has to be something it will accept.
Oopsjoppe 0
Just to update. It worked over HTTP and also with settings like https preferred but not required. I wonder what have changed on the cert requirements. This is a google thing right?
Luke 36886
Quote I wonder what have changed on the cert requirements. This is a google thing right? It would appear that this is certificate related, so if that's the case then yes.
Oopsjoppe 0
I'll investigate further, thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
mrfragger 39
Yesterday I couldn’t cast anymore either. What happened was the Roku TV automatically downloaded an airplay update. So now instead of casting and playing music through the Roku or Nvidia shield it goes straight to the TV via airplay. Better this way. The casting button won’t show it though so instead now must swipe up to get control screen on iPhone and choose the little airplay button and it works great that way.
