gillmacca01 148
Hi, looking for advice/options. I am moving in a few months (back to my mums to support her). My server will be setup in a different room to wear the router is. I know the easiest would be to run an Ethernet cable, but if this is not an option, what are my options to minimize speed loss? Thanks for your help and advice
PenkethBoy 2063
i assume the server is on the 451 - does it have wireless? if not get a good quality usb wireless dongle - check its compatible with the qnap - a lot might not be as qnap can be picky most if not all routers have a wireless option as does the shield you might need a wireless access point in extreme cases depending on how far away the Nas is from the router/ quality of the router/ what your walls are made of - list goes on However there is no guarantee that the wireless will be good - depends on lots of things - no way to check until you have it setup without professional equipment Cheapest and with a gaurantee is a long ethernet cable - even if it does look ugly unl;ess you can route it through a wall/ under carpet etc etc
