AV Equipment Power usage

Had a shocking electricity bill, turned out it wasn't the AV equipment particularly.

Has anyone else put power meters on their AV equipment? would be interested in other's results.

these are mine

Device	Spec	Utilisation
HTPC/Server	X99, 5820K, 10x5400/7200rpm SATA, 1xNVME, "Midrange GPU" Windows 10, High Performance Power Plan, Always on	moderate-high use / gaming 70W average utilisation (3000kwh over 5 years)
AV Receiver	Onkyo TX-NR808 , 5 channels populated, B&W 683 theatre {sub powered separately}	60W (left switched on, not playing} 90W (playing stereo audio normal volume) 170W (playing all channels uncomfortably loud)

planning to make a point of turning off AV receiver when not in use, was surprised how much power a 2010 receiver used on idle.

at 'only' 70W i am not sure that low powered NAS are worth it, specifically from their "low power standpoint", given the NAS hardware "premium tax" {especially at 10 bays} and generally lower performance, unless the heat output in a constrained physical space is of concern.

Old equipment is not very green - there is no way of getting around that.  The $ stack up when equipment is left on 24x7 - as it's the duration (Kw Hours) that make all the difference.

ie a 9000 Watt shower for 10 minutes = 1.5 Kwh per day.   That old AV amp in standby (60 Watt x 24Hrs) is almost the same @  1.44 Kwh per day ....  

The only issue with keep turning on/off old equipment is the thermal 'shock' and you will likely reduce it's life - meaning you need to repair it (green) or replace it, which probably defeats the energy cost savings in the first place ...
