All Channels in M3U list not showing in Emby

Not an easy way but you can add a TAGs to a station/channel then use Parental Restrictions to filter out those tags, essentially removing channels you don't want.

Thanks cayars, that's definitely a useful feature.

But in relation to the issue of removed duplicates it doesn't help.

Agreed,  the only way to load these is to de-dupe them by editing the m3u files to make them unique.

You may want to give xTeVe a look as it can hide channels, renumber them, etc

With xTeve you could have ABC as one channel in Emby and 3 of them in xTeVe but only one active.  So ABC could be switched rather quickly this way without having to reload anything in Emby as xTeVe sits in the middle.

Thanks again cayars.

xTeVe looks interesting. Something i may look at further. I expect it's a lot like Xtream editor and M3U4U, both of which i have used. Currently using M3U4U to mange groups and channels.

But that still doesn't address the issue. And while i appreciate your attempts to provide me with workarounds, i'm less interested in a quick fix, although editing the M3U isn't really quick, and more interested in future plans for Emby.

Do you guys have any plans to look at allowing duplicates in some fashion or another? Allowing me to switch between streams without having to edit the M3U file in some way?

Live TV is presently going through a a drastic rewrite as we speak and some parts of it are in testing with a few alpha testers.

This new Live TV does many things differently and most people using 3rd party tools will not need them.  This new version when released will do a lot (if not all) of what you need.

I am looking forward to seeing that myself :)  Just being able to use the groups defined in the m3u file will be a godsend.

That will definitely be in the next server release.  Thanks.

I would also like to add that managing streams of iptv is real pain for the moments and I look forward to the new features.  For the moment this is the workaround I use when using IPTVEditor.   You have to manually change epg-id for every channel so for example TSN1 will be epg-id = tsn1.ca  then for every other TSN1 channel I would just add _1, _2,_3  and so on it would be tsn1.ca_1, tsn1.ca_2....  This would import all channels and leave duplicates without EPG guide data.  If you arrange all channels nicely in iptveditor and sequentially number them you'll have a guide with TSN1 with data, followed with few channels with just dummy(blank) epg, then TSN2 with guide data followed with few blank and so forth.  I find this easiest and most presentable and easy to navigate.

If you wanted guide data on all channels you could at this point go to "channels" and manually change epg data to the one working one instead of the dummy epg that came with the channel.

It's a pain but, I only do this for sports channels and it seems to work for the time being.  I have to say that all this could even be solved if EMBY just used channel number as channel identifier instead of the epg-id.

You can fix this by putting the duplicate channels stream links under one channel ID name starting with the best quality link, for example

#EXTINF:-1,  AMC

http://iptvserver4k:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
http://iptvserverUHD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
http://iptvserver2HD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
http://iptvserver3SD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
#EXTINF:-1, ANIMAL PLANET
http://iptvserverUHD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
http://iptvserver2HD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
http://iptvserver3SD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
#EXTINF:-1, BRAVO
http://iptvserverUHD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
http://iptvserver2HD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243
http://iptvserver3SD:80/54776/hrthrfdf/10243

If the first link will not play it will play the next one.

wow! I was so excited to read this. A failover feature? Holy Smokes
so I created a simple m3u with these three lines to test the backup/failover:

#EXTINF:-10052, NBC
http://funchannels.com/dogs/cATs/56565678
http://funchannels.com/dogs/cATs/8339

The first url has a wrong channel number on purpose. It doesn't work.
The second url is the SD version of same channel and it works.

When I attempt to play channel, I get: "Playback Error. No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details."

How can I get Emby to try the 8339 link channel if first in list fails?

Thank you!

We currently don't do that but it is something that we're planning on adding in future updates. thanks.

I have to say that it's disappointing how long these iptv features are taking.  This has been talked about and was an issue with majority of people for years.  We're talking about very small number of lines of code that needs to be added to address all of our requests.  This isn't that hard.  We're talking about reading and parsing a txt file and arranging it to users liking.

I'm not a Emby developer but I am a software developer.  In general, these types of requests come in and are added to a list, and given a ranking (priority) by someone or a group of people.  Developers take things off of the top of the list as they finish one off.  Other things may get added to the list that are considered more desirable and/or of more benefit to the majority of the users.  There are a finite (and I think fairly small) number of full time Emby developers so the list gets processed as fast as it can. But low priority things tend to suffer greatly in that environment.

If it were me ranking things, this would be at or near the absolute bottom.  You can accomplish the same thing easily by simply selecting a different stream of the same channel if the first one doesn't work, right?  Although a cute feature, I'd struggle to give it priority over things like ATSC3 or 4K improvements for example.  But that's just me, and I have no say in what gets worked on.

You're 100% right.   I have no issue with selecting steams.  My issue is with streams {channels) not even showing up if the epg-id is the same.  It sees it as a duplicate and doesn't even show multiple streams of the same channel even when channel name and number are different.  Looks like It's using epg-id as channel identifier instead channel number.  I outlined my workaround in my earlier post.

In my post which you quoted, I was talking in more general terms about IPTV features overhaul and when I wrote "this has been talked about and was an issue for years...." that's what I meant and not about any specific issue.  But, I didn't word that very well.

As I have seen many people asking about a more feature rich IPTV section I would think that it would be higher on the list of things to do.  I'm also in the information technology field with some programming background and will come up with a solution to a problem fairly easily using workarounds but, it doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see some features implemented or improved.

Hi.  Yes, because that's exactly what that (epg-ID) is :).  More flexibility is possible for the future.

Recent releases of the server have included channel grouping (via tags) that works automatically with most m3u tuners and much better mapping and channel management features.  These were the absolute top-priority parts of the things you are thinking of as "IPTV features".

While this thread gets a lot of activity, Emby is not an IPTV client per se - it is an entire personal media server and management system.  So, while we still want to continue to improve features in this area, the overall media playback and management features always take priority because they impact a much larger percentage of Emby users.  We will get there eventually...

Oh yes, I have taken issue with that in the past as well.  Even if the link is different it is considered a duplicate I believe.
