Audio quality gone to pot on Android with mpg files

When playing films or TV from my android device  that are in the mpg format the quality has become almost unlistenable (sorry I can't think how to describe it better). I am running the most up to date versions of both the client and the server. This issue does not affect other clients such as laptops or TVs
