5.1 Content Downmixed to stereo on android tv

hello, i have an issue with my local setup, here is some info

My TV is connected to Mi Box 4K (proper android TV not AOSP) via HDMI (TV has one HDMI port).

The box has an opt out and is connected to my 5.1 system via a Toslink to Mini-Toslink Cable.

Initially when i used to play 5.1 movies i wasnt able to control volume with my TV Box's Remote but now i can, i did a bit of digging and found out that the audio was being downmixed locally. The content is Dolby Digital nothing fancy.

i checked if local Downmix to stereo was turned on but it was set to stereo. another issue is that the app Doesnt choose the recommended refresh rate (23.98) and always sets it to 58. when i change it to 23.98 stats for nerds shows something different. i have attached the pictures for reference do have a look. (P.S :- My Reciever is Quite old)

Thank You.

FrostByte

Do you have "Enable Refresh Rate Switching" enabled in settings?  With it enabled my Shield will automatically play the file using the media's internal refresh rate, otherwise it plays at whatever my Shield is set at.

Hi.  The app is seeing the audio connection to your TV via HDMI.  There is currently no way to make it send the audio out the optical connection instead.

Does your AVR have an HDMI input?

Hmm, My tv Volume is set to 0 and audio is working fine just that it doesn't feel like sorround sound like on prime video and Netflix. Rear speakers are very quite almost inaudible (works fine when streaming from other apps). Yes my AVR has an hdmi port with ARC but it only has one HDMI port. And for some weird reason my tv has only one hdmi port (supports arc). So I can't connect my AVR and the tv box at the same time. I'm just trying to find out why the content is being downmixed because initially this didn't happen everything was fine. (Had to use my HT's remote to +/- volume)
