TouchASpider 0
Hello, I have a show that has 2 versions of each episode. VC1 and H264. Two versions of "Show.S01E01.mkv", "Show.S01E02.mkv", "Show.S01E03.mkv", etc. Both versions correctly display in the webui and I can choose what to play. For AppleTV I can not select the version of the TV episode to play. It mentions both of them under the "subtitle and audio" options but that doesn't actually toggle between them. I can tell it's not working because transcoding is disabled, so the VC1 should not work and H264 should work on AppleTV (and they do work this way if I remove the other version). Selecting a different movie version works fine. This issue is only for TV episodes.
corey 312
Hi @TouchASpider -- I'm sorry to hear you're having a problem playing different versions of an episode. Unfortunately I'm unable to repeat this so we'll need a bit more information. Can you provide the media info for the item please? Is your server accessible to the Internet if so and you're comfortable you can send me the credentials in a DM or invite me via Emby Connect and I can try and test it out. Could you send me a screenshot of the UI with the multi-select option for a TV episode? I just don't see that on the AppleTV UI.
corey 312
Version is under the "Select Audio or Subtitles" button on the episode detail screen: If you don't see "Version" then it's likely an issue of the Apple TV app misunderstanding the metadata for the item. If you can provide the media info for the item that'd help. Thanks!

I thought the H264 version was playing fine before, but it only plays fine (with transcoding disabled) with MPV enabled. Must be some thing weird with that mkv. Anyway - I can now see that the correct version will try to play. Although trying to play the VC1 version (with video transcoding disabled) seems to put it in a bad state and require me to kill the app to play anything afterwards. But killing the app is easy enough. Thanks for your help!
Luke 37022
Yea the apple tv probably just can't handle decoding vc1 very well.
vdatanet 1549
I have some VC1 rips: 1. Native player: requires transcoding, so if transcoding is disabled you will run into problems 2. MPV player: playback is correct Edited November 15, 2020 by vdatanet
