Is there a method to force transcoding when using DLNA?

I'm using an old Sharp Television with Android version 4.4. Now I want to use DLNA to playback the movies in Emby. However it seems that this TV does not support HEVC well, when playing HEVC videos the colors are weird. Also when playing h264 videos the subtitles do not show properly.

So my idea is to force the server to transcode the video when using DLNA to stream the video but fail to find an option to do so. So is there any way to force transcoding when I am using DLNA to stream videos in Emby?

Hi, yes you'd have to design a custom dlna profile for the Sharp to limit what direct plays, and then more content will transcode.

Can you provide a server log, or do you know what profile is being used when you play something via DLNA on your Sharp TV?  Have you explored Dashboard-DLNA Profiles tab?

But the server would already be transcoding if Sharp Smart TV profile was being used as there is no HEVC support.

Are you sure you are not already transcoding as there currently no HDR tone mapping when transcoding?

The log is attached above.

The DLNA is provided by an app called LEBO so I think the default (not the Sharp) profile is used when playing videos via DLNA. 

So how should I modify the default profile to enable transcoding for both burning the subtitles into the video and transcode hevc to avc video?

The DLNA is provided by an app called LEBO so I think the default (not the Sharp) profile is used when playing videos via DLNA. 

So how should I modify the default profile to enable transcoding for both burning the subtitles into the video and transcode hevc to avc video?

The Default profile allows everything to direct play, go to Dashboard-DLNA profiles tab and click on the Sharp Smart TV profile to open it.

Change Name to Lebo Media Render

Scroll down to Identification section and expand

HTTP Headers section delete the current User-Agent Sharp

Scroll all the way to the bottom and hit save.

You have now made a Custom profile with all the Sharp settings.  Not positive if you need to restart Emby or if the device will just start using that profile, so you will have to test.
