Armageus 67
Just wondering whether the Emby team has explored the possibility of an Emby app for the latest Freesat platform. Freesat have recently added Britbox, and look to be looking for other Apps to partner with to help boost adoption for their platform (which would like also boost adoption of Emby) https://wwwprod.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat Freesat adoption is arguably growing in the UK as subscribers switch from Sky Satellite due to ever rising costs. * Full Disclosure - I own a Freesat 4K box
ebr 14862
Hi. Do you know what the underlying OS is? What does the interface and "store" on it look like?
Armageus 67
I believe it's Linux based like most Set Top boxes. It doesn't have a "store" as such, but does have an on-demand section with the netflix, youtube etc apps which are delivered as part of overall software updates to the Freesat box. I'll take some photos of the UI later if I get a chance. I believe the specific platform is Arris/Commscope's KreaTV https://www.commscope.com/globalassets/digizuite/61954-kreatv-datasheet.pdf https://www.commscope.com/product-type/broadband-video-devices/video-devices/set-tops/video-devices-for-kreatv/?utm_source=arris&utm_medium=redirect They also have quite a lot of Open Source projects (not necessarily directly related, but likely due to redistributing open source components etc) here: https://sourceforge.net/arris/ Edited September 22, 2020 by Armageus
unisoft 271
I think you have to have Freesat wanting you on the platform for the set top boxes? Its licensing, rules to agree to and stuff. As there is usually no vendor app store - the app is baked into firmware as a minimum version or potentially from a controlled url for other apps that are deemed as common to all (like catch up players). A Freesat TV itself (not a set top box) may already be covered by its own app store by the tv vendor OS (e.g. Samsung and LG) so the apps are available.
