Right, uninstalled Emby app and reinstalled.   Option 2 from my original list is now fixed and playback options have appeared. I did discover a new bug though   Intuition told me it was treated as a new device (when it wasn't actually) - but can't help wonder how many other people have tripped over on this in the past.
