Movie grouping does not work for more than 8 versions

Hello,

I am using the naming convention as explained in the documentation, and it is working very well, as long as there are no more than 8 versions of the same movie.

See the example below:

/Movies
    /Movie Example (1980)
    /Movie Example (1980)/trailers/Movie Example (1980) - Trailer.mp4
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 1.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 2.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 3.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 4.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 5.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 6.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 7.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 8.mkv

In this way the versions are grouped and displayed, including the trailer. But if one more file is added, it will be recognized as a new movie and will not be grouped.

/Movies
    /Movie Example (1980)
    /Movie Example (1980)/trailers/Movie Example (1980) - Trailer.mp4
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 1.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 2.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 3.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 4.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 5.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 6.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 7.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 8.mkv
    /Movie Example (1980)/Movie Example (1980) - Version 9.mkv

In this way the version 9 will appear in the library as a new movie. Manual grouping works, but the trailer is no longer recognized.

This happens if the 8 versions are added before and the next ones are included later, but if more than 8 versions are included, automatic grouping does not work, and a movie for each file appears in the library.

Version of Emby: 4.4.3.0

Server: Ubuntu

Thanks for the excellent work and sorry for any difficulty in explaining, English is not my language.

@Luke this is reproducible.

The 9th version breaks auto version grouping and breaks the local trail and uses trailer url.  Manually grouping continues to use trailer url.

The 9th version 9 individual item in Content type Movies/folder view shows folder with 9 items.

4.5.0.25 Windows

Yes it's a hard-coded limitation to avoid accidental mis-matches. It's not currently configurable although it's possible for the future.

Try putting the trailer in a sub folder of the individual movie folder - once in a trailer folder can be called anything you like

eg.

..\movies\movie name\trailers\trailerfile.ext

..\movies\movie name\trailers\another_trailerfile.ext

and you can have as many as you want and work in same way etc

I have a trailers folder and it works normally. The problem occurs when I do the manual grouping, and the system displays the Youtube trailer.

I would try that again with the next release. Thanks.

Do you mean 4.6+?  As my tests were in 4.5.0.25.

The 8 limit restriction is unchanged. That's something to potentially review in the future.

I was suggesting he re-evaluate this after the next release:

Right I haven't' had a chance to review this yet, sorry. I think there is risk involved with changing it.

Can this be a value users can adjust even if hidden in config file?  As this is still coming up.
