Do you have exclusive mode, enabled? It looks like your device doesn't support what you want in exclusive mode.

Ah, yes, I apologize. Running the same config on my system, I get the same print out. But I do actually get 5.1 surround.

The difference I see between yours and mine...

Mine

[ 0.413][v][ao/wasapi] device buffer: 480 samples.
[ 0.413][v][ao/wasapi] using soft-buffer of 192000 samples.
[ 0.413][d][ao/wasapi] Thread Resume
[ 0.413][d][ao/wasapi] Thread Reset
[ 0.413][i][cplayer] AO: [wasapi] 48000Hz stereo 2ch spdif-ac3
[ 0.413][v][cplayer] AO: Description: Windows WASAPI audio output (event mode)
[ 0.414][v][af] [convert] (disabled)
[ 0.414][v][af] [out] 48000Hz stereo 2ch spdif-ac3

Yours

[ 0.682][v][ao/wasapi] device buffer: 480 samples.
[ 0.682][v][ao/wasapi] using soft-buffer of 10752 samples.
[ 0.682][i][cplayer] AO: [wasapi] 48000Hz stereo 2ch spdif-ac3
[ 0.682][v][cplayer] AO: Description: Windows WASAPI audio output (event mode)
[ 0.682][v][af] [convert] (disabled)
[ 0.682][v][af] [out] 48000Hz stereo 2ch spdif-ac3

Your sampling is much lower, because you're using optical. Are you sure you're hearing stereo? The audio level is boosted, so it will be louder, but you should be getting 5.1. I'm using HDMI of course, but are you sure your DAC isn't receiving 5.1? If you play an AC3 track, do you get 5.1?

It looks like you're using multiple displays? Windows will only create the HDR swapchain on the primary display, and you'll need to enable HDR in Windows, manually. I think Microsoft is moving toward removing auto-switching. Nvidia has got around this by creating their own API which will enable and disable the Windows HDR. I just turn it on, and leave it on. But if you have multiple mixed displays, that will be a problem.

I just tested the auto switching to HDR with some software I previously knew would achieve that. It no longer works. So it looks like Microsoft killed it.

Ok so need to wait when nvidia gets it done

Nvidia has had the API for a while. But I think only MadVR uses it. I think it's pointless. Just turn it on, and leave it on.

Ok and turn it off when watching a non hdr correct or just keep it on

I never turn it off. My desktop looks just fine, and the latest build of mpv has adjusted for the white point. So everything plays perfectly. I have made some changes to my mpv.conf, for more improvements, but they are dependent on using mpv/Emby Theater on an HDR display with Windows in HDR mode.

The Scalers section requires shaders that you don't have and may not need. Are you using a 4K display? Your log says it's 1080. If it's 1080, ignore the scalers section except for dscale=mitchell and maybe add correct-downscaling=yes
