Zap2It

Most of my clients (but not iOS) have at the bottom of TV recordings a link to "Zap2It".  Wikipedia tells me that this is a site with details of US and Canadian TV listings only, so I guess it is useless if you are somewhere else (like me).  But in any case, the address is not accessible - a DNS lookup on it fails.

It seems to me that something needs checking out here...

It's a legacy name of the Schedules Direct service.

I'm a long-time subscriber by route of NextPVR / XBMC

I am in the U.S., but I found some forum posts saying they deliver U.K. schedules as well.

Looks like digital terrestrial stations are well covered but DVB-S might not have everything, if you use that.

What url are you seeing that for?

tvlistings.zap2it.com itself is not resolving.

How old are the recordings?

Emby hasn't used Schedules Direct since they closed source.

Or maybe there is something orphaned in the code?

Nothing to stop you using Schedules Direct though. I do through xmltv as I emby’s epg matching is only really good for hdhr

Yes, that's true.

@pwhodges doesn't mention if they are using the built in or other guide service.  I just assumed the question wouldn't have been asked if they knew that service was being used.

I have a HDHR, and like you said, it works quite well for me.

I am using the Emby guide with my HDHR, and this Zap2It link appears below recordings in all the clients I've checked except the iOS one.  I had no idea what it was, clicked it (on Android) and had my client hang.  In the browser I get an error message:

Since the web site doesn't even work, I wondered whether it was useful to have a link to it there.

Assume a geo location restriction.

I can only assume the zapit ids come from TVDB

example as you can see they list the zapit external link.

Georestrictions are common on web sites of course, but I must admit I've never seen one that operated on the DNS lookup; I didn't know that was even possible, not least because the DNS infrastructure is entirely independent of any website.
