A "single" line view is unacceptable and renders Collections as nearly unusable. We currently think of collections as a box we place objects into where I believe it simplifies things to think of collections as a list we attach things to. That means that displaying a collection becomes as simple as applying a filter to the total view and all the viewing possibilities that are available for the regular view become available for the collection. That also would make nesting collections easier and you could have interesting collections that overlap or intersect quite easily. I know it would not be quite as simple as I have made it sound and there are bound to be cases that are not solved quite so simply but treating collections as a list instead of a box does, at least on the surface, seem to solve many issues and make viewing options easier.
