Hello,

did you look?
can you help me please?

I have never been able to see playback in the logs you have sent due to all the other activity in them.  If you can try one more time doing the absolute minimum to create the issue (non playback) and send the log.

That crash is not in our app.  Looks permissions related in the OS...

That isn't the same crash or module...  That report has an actual app module as the crash producer (com.something.something).  If you look at yours above, the module that is crashing is "supolicy".

I am encountering a very similar problem to what pellimark is experiencing. I have a similar box the X96 Max plus running Android Pie and when I run emby for android TV I can get past the login screen. I am able enter my credentials but when it starts to boot I get a blank screen for several minutes, sometimes it crashes, and sometimes I have to reboot the box. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times to no avail. I tried Plex and Jellyfin, both of which worked. This leaves me wondering why Emby is having difficulty with this OS or perhaps it's due to the new chip set being an S905x3.

I read through this thread and some of the discussion is leaning towards specialised versions of Android, for TV versus Stock. I have sent you the logs from the app at approximately 11:40 PM UTC.

Your help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Did you use our procedure to do this?  I cannot find any log at that time.

Thank you for getting back to me Ebr,

I do not believe that I followed your procedure. I used the send log function button from the Emby for Android TV option, I thought that was a working function. I looked at the procedure and I can send you the server log, the .txt file looks pretty big, like it records all the day's activities. To make things easier, I just tried opening the app again at 16:19. It shows that log in is successful at 16:19:04 (near the bottom), after that well, you tell me.

The problem: I start the app, I log in with my user name and password. The screen goes black and stays that way. eventually I get a message "Emby is not responding" with choices to wait or quit. Sometimes the machine freezes and I have to reboot to get it back. I have uninstalled and re-installed the application several times with the same result.

Screen shots and sever log attached.

I look forward to hearing from you. :)

@mtlbrownsugar  You got that "not responding" prompt after hitting the "Send Logs" button on the first screen you showed or only after trying to log in?

Your server log shows no activity from the Android TV app so it is never getting to your server.

Does this device have a proper Android TV launcher screen or does it look like a phone?

@pellimark The crash you showed is not from our app.

@ebr I got the "not responding" after trying to log into the emby app. Perhaps the log shows no activity for the Android TV app, but I highlighted a screen shot of the log that shows that the Emby server sees my device and that it received and authenticated my log in. That fact that the log shows no more activity after that is indicative of something, right?

I am currently running ADW launcher 2 on this device. If you believe the launcher could be the issue, perhaps you could suggest one that works well with Emby and I will try it.

@pellimark If you can tell that emby is not causing the crash when I log into the app, can you tell what is from the log? If so, please let us know. Thanks.

I imagine that is it.  The app is trying to create the "channels" for the device home screen using an API that should exist on all true Android TVs.  I'm sure that's where it is falling down.

If we could get a log of the actual error, I might be able to work around it on these devices but, so far, we haven't been able pinpoint it.

You need a true Android TV OS/ROM.  @clarkss12

@clarkss12 Thanks for the link to the ROM but I just bought this box and if I need to return it I can't go changing the firmware. Thanks for dropping a line.

When you say getting a log of the error, do you mean off of the android device itself? If so, I'm not sure that is possible. The only avenue that I have access to is the "send log" option on the log in page as shown on the screenshot I sent earlier in this thread. Since you told me you did not receive the logs I submitted this way, I can see why the problem is so hard to solve. I went through reviews on the play store and checked other online sources and it seems to be problem that many people are encountering.

At any rate, let me know if there is anything else we can try, and while I await your reply I will look into alternatives.

Thank you

@mtlbrownsugar can you please supply a log from the Android TV app? Instructions on how to do that can be found at the bottom of here:

Thanks !

He has attempted that before but, unfortunately, we have not been able to capture the actual problem.

Trying again - right after a crash is worth a shot though.

@Luke Thank you for replying to my current issue. In terms of supplying a log from my Android TV app, the instructions on how to report a problem mention going into the settings of the app to turn on debugging option. However, as I mentioned to @ebr since I am unable to log in successfully I am unable to change this setting. On the log in page there is a send log option, does this option function without me being able to log in? If not, is there some other way to get at this log information? Please let me know.

Thanks.

Yes, that button was placed there for exactly this type of situation.  You can use it to send a log right after the crash.  Please provide the exact time you sent it.

Thanks.

@ebrI ran the app and sent the report at Aug 30th at 18:28 my time or 10:28 UTC time.  Please let me know if this is of any help.

Thanks.
