Hi there,

After rebuilding my server and spinning up a new vm for emby im coming across a weird issue with write access.  I was trying to change my metadata folder to a separate drive.   I made the folders, made emby the owner of folder.

drwxr-xr-x 2 emby users 4096 May 27 19:35 emby-test-dir

when i try and change the metadata folder to this folder, which is now on the OS drive to rule out a mounting issue.

It tells me

"Emby Server requires write access to this folder. Please ensure write access and try again"

I run    "sudo -u emby touch test"

this creates a file fine with the file owner being emby.

ive checked the systemd file to make sure its using emby as a user too.

Also when i check the install folder in /var/lib it shows the folder like this.

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root   root     12 May 25 11:07 emby -> private/emby

and my laptop which had emby on for a long time is not looking like this.

edit:(just looked on my laptop again, its the same folder layout so all ok there.)

edit: tried using acl and setting 777 on folder with same outcome on 2 different systems.

Hope someone can help me, dont usually have these issues installing emby.

Many Thanks

Craig

Yea i had a read through that, it can scan all my media fine.

I just cant get it to write to a single folder other than its /var/lib/emby folder

I think i will run up ubuntu and check on there.

Is this a subfolder of something?  who owns the parent?

Initially i tried it under /media where i mount my drives.  Owned by root.

Then created a folder on the root drive and made the owner emby,  made no difference.

i cant seem to find anything in the logs either about the access attempt.
