installed emby server on synology nas.

went to add a library and it's not allowing me to use the path where the content is.

/volume1/data/media/movies

when i try to browse to it, it lets me select volume1, but when i double click on "data" it clears the selection and goes back to blank.

it won't even let me manually type in the path.

bug or otherwise?

the new install setup process doesn't mention that though.

it creates the account then takes you to the library creation page.

maybe the new install walk-thru needs to add this instruction/link so you know it needs to be done?

The link is at the very bottom of the page for setting up installs

https://emby.media/nas-server.html

But ya, either the instructions or the install should probably say something about skipping the whole library setup part of the install so you can configure your permissions, etc first.

i'm talking about the install process after installing.

when you go to ipaddress:8096 when you get to the library creation page it doesn't mention anything about having to manually grant permissions to folders etc.

if you don't go via that published webpage then you never see that, very important, step.

We'll look at improving the setup process. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi all,

I have the same issue with installing Emby server on DSM 7. Nothing mentioned about configuration of NAS in through this link https://emby.media/synology7-server.html

So I downloaded it and installed as per instructions. Now can't access files on the NAS...

Not sure, if the recommendation to check these step first, still apply for current version: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Synology-:-Setting-Up-Your-Media-Library-Share

Too bad there is no clear step by step installation guide.

I have been searching for it on the net, though no luck for DSM 7

Thanks

Thanks for your feedback. I have DSM 7 on my Synology DS918+ NAS and was simply looking for a fresh install of Emby to try it for the first time. The topic you are referring to migth be the solution, however does not imply to be a setup guide for fresh install on DSM 7.

As I am a noob to Emby, could you kindly confirm it is please?

In that link are instructions and a video.  Assuming you already have DSM 7 installed you can follow only the bold parts below  which are covered in the video:

As you can see for a new install to get Emby installed and work there is only 2 steps needed.  Then after you configure Emby you will add libraries which you've already give permission to below (2nd bold item) and then add users.  So it's pretty simple.

Download and have ready DSM 7 package for update
https://www.synology.com/en-us/DSM70 (I will be downloading both a virtualDSM 7 & for 920+)

Download and have ready Emby Server 4.6.3 for both DSM 6 & DSM 7
https://emby.media/download.html

- update Emby Server to 4.6.3 (or latest release)
- restart Emby Server and verify your on 4.6.3
- uninstall Emby

- update DSM to v7

- install Emby 4.6.3 (or same version that was running above (dsm7 version)
- stop Emby
- remove emby_pkg user and video group
- enable admin account if needed
- give read/write permissions to your login ID and add Emby

- enable ssh in Synology settings (Terminal & SNMP menu)
- connect with Putty to Synology, login with admin user and get root rights with: sudo -i

- copy files from old Emby share to new data location:
cp -rv /volume1/Emby/* /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer

- adjust owner from copied files:
chown -R emby:emby /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer
- close putty

- From Control Panel go to Shared Folder and edit each share that is used by Emby Server.  Click the share, then EDIT, go to permission tab, select internal system user from drop down,
grant emby user read/write access.

Thank you so much for your support

There is no prerequisite for SSH to be enabled. So installed Emby without issues, started Emby server and when I was to setup the Library I got stuck as I could browse to the NAS folder though can't select it

The emby user is not visible in the permissions tab. Most likely as SSH was disabled during install.

Should I uninstall, enable SSH and then install and follow the steps in bold as you described?

If I only read your instructions more carefully two hours ago...

Again, many thanks.

Tunezilla

So I updated to DSM 7 yesterday and have the same issues,  I was able to just resolve it by going to

Shared folder > permissions

Change dropdown box to System Internal Users

Check to see if EMBY has permissions, which in my case it did not.  So far things are coming up in the scan.

Hope that helps someone
