1. Hardware: Xiaomi Mi Box S Android 9

2. Android server running on Mi Box S 4.5.0.11 (internal IP 192.168.1.178)

3. Emby for Android (whichever is in the play store)

Purchased this Android TV Box on Monday, everything was working fine until today.

Today, I cannot connect to the Android Server from Mi Box itself using Emby for Android.  Nothing has changed (I was out all day).

Connection ok

I can connect using a web browser on the Mi Box,

I can connect using a web browser from another computer.

Cannot Connect

Emby for Android

Login with PIN

"Enter manually"

I have restarted multiple times, uninstalled Emy for Android.  Any insight? Attached are the logs.

HI there, what happens when you try to connect ?

"Unable to connect to server" or "server not found" or nothing happens

EDIT: tried with both HTTP and HTTPS

Cleared cache, did not work.

Cleared data, now working again - but have to set up all over again :-\

Perhaps a little more investigation as to why this might have happened is still warranted though?

Hi.  You are running both the server and app on the same Android box?

Yes

EDIT: I have Emby Server running on my HTPC as well, but Android TV cannot seem to connect to it, neither HTTP or HTTPS, local or external IP.  :(

How are you trying?  Exactly what happens when you do?

Can you connect to that server from a web browser on a PC other than the one the server is running on?  Using the same IP address as you are on the Android box?

I just want to be clear that I have multiple systems and have been testing various setups, I will list below the issues I have encountered with connectivity.

Mi Box S

Running latest Android 9, latest Emby Server Beta, latest Android TV Beta, WiFi

HTPC

Running Windows 10, latest Emby Server Beta, latest Emby Theater, hard wired

Connectivity Issues with Mi Box S

Android TV:

1. Can connect to Mi Box S Emby Server (resolved by clearing data on Emby Server)

2. Cannot connect to HTPC Emby Server even though it sees "HTPC-PC"

a. direct selection - return error "Unable to connect to server 'wake' 'remove' 'cancel'

b. Internal / External HTTP and HTTPS: manually entry - return error "Unable to connect"

3. Cannot add network media sources from HTPC

Chrome Browser

1. Can connect to Mi Box S Emby Server - local and external IP

2. Can connect to HTPC Emby Server - local and external IP

Connectivity with PC, Smartphone etc.

1. Can connect to everything - i.e. Mi Box S Emby server, HTPC Emby server.

Okay, that sounds like something blocking the Android device from accessing the server.  I remember someone recently having this same issue and tracing it to some form of AV software, I think...

But only through Emby for Android? On the same device, I can access through Chrome.

Yes, it was only blocking the Android device.

wow ... I don't know why I didn't ever think of that ...  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D     the HTPC is behind a VPN.

I turned off the VPN and the Mi Box S can now connect to the HTPC.

Now I just need to figure out how to connect to the HTPC even when it is behind a VPN.
